YESTERDAY AND TODAY

Karen and I spent much of the day yesterday as our "off day of rest." We did do some necessary things yesterday morning getting Jason more settled for college this semester and discussing some necessary guidelines with him. Karen and I had a father and mother talk with him - do you remember those? He was a little resistant (he thought being 21 meant those talks were over) but we believe he will come through with what God wants in his life. We pray that God will use him mightily. He chose to go to college and major in music and said, "I believe that is what God wants from me." He knows that God has given him a ministry in music and worship leading. God has brought him through a lot and will continue as he follows Jesus. This time last year Jason was still recovering from a car wreck that left his right hip shattered. It happened on Nov. 5, 2004. God's mercy reached down to him and brought him back from an addictive lifestyle - enough said. Thank God for victory in Jesus!

After doing some other necessary things pertaining to Karen's job search we traveled to Natchez Trace State Park and drove through relaxing and enjoying God's creation. We traveled on to Lexington, did some shopping, and ate a KFC. We were back home by 5:30 p.

Yesterday evening around 7 pm I noticed that my right side began hurting. I have been advised by doctors that recurrent urinary tract infections are indicated with the surgical scaring etc. that I have. I started on an antibiotic and some pain killers - which only barely numbed the pain. I was in pain most of the night from about 8-3 this morning when the infection began to flow out. I was very weak this morning and have been weak most of this day and have rested. Just a few minutes ago, I felt like coming to the computer and enter some information. To any who read this, your prayers are very much appreciated. God still works miracles. . .

Karen visited Sister Bonnie (Curtis) Crossno and took her some bananas today. We know she loves bananas and her face lit up when we told her we would bring her some. Karen said that Sister Bonnie is very sedentary and did not respond much. She desires continued prayer.

I called the McKenzie Rehabilitation Center and talke to Amy, the Activities Director, about having prayer meeting there tomorrow night. She was very receptive and gave me some information on where to have it. I told her that Sister Lennie Mae Crossno is one of the members of our church and that we wanted to come and have a prayer service with her. She was very receptive and ask if others could come. "Of course," I told her, "We want as many as will come to come." She asked if we could do it on a monthly basis and I told her that it may be on another evening since our Wed. services would likely start again soon. She was very happy for us to come on any evening. We are looking forward to this time of prayer and ministering to those who cannot get out to come to church anymore. May the Lord's presence be with us is my prayer. The prayer service at the Huntingdon Health and Rehab Center was awesome with the presence of God.

AWESOME SUNDAY SERVICES

Sunday morning worship was blessed and anointed by the powerful presence of the Holy Ghost. People were worshipping spontaneously as wave and wave of the presence of God touched hearts and lives. The singing, the testimonies, and the word of God went forth with great liberty and power. The message, number two in a series, on Walking In the Spirit - Pressing Into the Kingdom, gave us greater desire to have the fruit of the Spirit operating and becoming more and more a part of our daily lives. We were very thankful to see faces that recently have become a regular part of our services. Virginia and Jimmy Davis and Jimmy's mother Willodene Davis continue to worship with us and it is a joy to see them giving God praises as they join in the celebration of praise to the King of Kings. We are thankful for Lisa Benjamin and Mike Gillison who have now been with us for the past three weeks. Several were in the altar as the Holy Spirit ministered and blessed. People were coming forward asking for prayer for physical, mental, emotional, financial, and family needs. There was a sense of urgency in the atmosphere to pray for the lost and to seek God for a greater move of revival and evangelism among our families and in the community.

As the worship continued and the children came back in from their worship time, Karen informed me that Zach Dodson, son of Chad and Kim Byars, ask Jesus to be His savior. He told his mom and said, "Don't I need to be baptized too?" YES, there will be a baptismal service and we are praying for others who will come in the water after they have accepted Jesus as their Savior. We are also praying for a time to emphasize church membership.

Last night was Care Group emphasis. Several were present who have not been in our Sunday evening services. After a time of worship in singing and giving, each group met and shared together as the Care leaders emphasized their desires to minister to each one. Testimonies were given, needs were expressed, requests were made and prayers went up to the throne of Grace. Plans were made to begin meeting in homes as the leaders discussed times and days to schedule services.

After care groups, Karen, Sister Carolyn Spain and myself went to visit with Sister Bonnie (Curtis) Crossno. We had a good season of prayer. She continues to request prayer. Her breathing is better but she continues to need our prayers. Also Sister Jennie Sanders continues to need prayer. Her legs continue to retain fluid.

WHAT AN AWESOME DAY WITH THE PRESENCE OF GOD MANIFESTING AND BLESSING. O THANK THE LORD!

PRAYER REQUEST

Sister Bonnie (Curtis) Crossno is in the Huntingdon Hospital having breathing problems. She desires prayer.

YESTERDAY & TODAY

Karen and I traveled to Nashville yesterday and visited with the Fisher family. We left at 1:30 pm after I visited the local hospital as Vol. Chaplain. We arrived fairly early (3:30 pm) and there were several already there. Beautiful flowers were coming in, sent from many different places. We spoke to Bishop and Sister Fisher, Sister Nadine and Sister Rebecca. I remembered my mother telling me that I stayed with Sister Mattie when I was very young while she worked. Sister Fisher was 96 years old according to Rebecca. We spoke with Rebecca for a while. We expressed our sympathies and visited about an hour. We left and took care of some personal business in Nashville went to eat and then left for home. We got in around 10 pm last night.

This morning I walked three miles and today has been a day of study and prayer. Karen and I went for haircuts at 1 pm and got back about 2 pm. This afternoon Deacon J. E. and Sister Marie Moore came by and visited. We had a good visit.

I am finishing up this week as Vol. Chaplain at the local hospital and will visit there in a little while.

The prayer meeting went well at Sister Carolyn's. There was several present and the presence of the Lord was evident. We worshipped in song, and heard the word on prayer. TODAY

First thing today, I will be visiting the hospital as Vol. Chaplain. This usually takes about a couple hours. I will need to do some studying for services Sunday and also some work on my ministry and tax records for 2005. This is the time of the year that income tax becomes a daily thought and, sometimes, task, until all records are in and the completed income tax records are sent to IRS. It will be a relief to get it finished. I usually start gathering all the records, etc. and get the tax records together before the 15th of April.

It has been several weeks since I did any work on the DMin. I need to get started back so that the deadline to finish doesn't catch me. Time, time, time. . .it slips by. . . God help me today. . .

CONTROVERSIAL SHOW "THE BOOK OF DANIEL" CANCELLED BY NBC

Nashville NBC reports that the show "The Book of Daniel" was cancelled because of "poor ratings." Conservatives are blamed for the failure of the show due to so many who wrote negative remarks about the show, says NBC.

If anyone at NBC thinks that the show portrays "real life" in a minister's family, then someone is living in a dream world. While there may be some who live like the show depicted, many Americans still believe in moral family values and one man and one woman who marry. There was not much comment about the other family members, shown as drug addicts, homosexuals and in extramarital relations.

Dear Lord, thank You for the time You give me each day. You have given me 24 hours in each day. What I do during those 24 hours is very vital to my relationship with You. Time is a treasure that You give all of us. Help me to be in the yoke with You so that my time will be used to Your glory. Balance me in Your wisdom so that my time will be balanced in what I do each and every hour and each and every day. Reaffirm in me the spirit of praying without ceasing and jog me when I don't get alone with You only with no other activities or distractions for a season during that 24 hours that you give me every day. TODAY

The morning sun came as usual but this was not a typical day for us. Jason's old car would not start and after trying to get it started for 20 minutes, Karen finally took Jason to classes. He was late and did not get to turn in a music lesson that was already late. One thing happened after the other (not going into details) that kept me tied most all day. I finally got back to the car at around 3:30 pm and had to go get a hose and an air filter for the old car. The old one was full of bugs and some oily stuff. I also had to adjust the timing. I worked on it another hour this evening and finally got it running again - smoother than ever. In between all this I made phone calls to get a place confirmed for prayer meeting tomorrow night and called some who were absent in Sunday Services. I also went to the Advance auto parts store twice.

In the middle of the car project, a neighbor, Mrs. Ravenell Britt, came by and visited for about 30 minutes and then said she had to go to her sister's and would be back. I finished getting the car running and took care of some personal things then I heard Karen going to the front door. Mrs. Britt came in with an envelope and said, "the donations inside are for the new chruch and are in memory of our parents who helped get this church started." We thanked her and she visited about another 15 minutes. Then Mr. Billy Dillahunty, Brother-in-law of Bill Hall, came by to thank me for the funeral service and gave me a cheque. He said, "its all your fault that the service went so well." I said, "I guess I can take the blame for that but lets give the Lord any credit that is due." We laughed. He stayed only a few minutes. Its now 5 pm and we will need to go get Jason soon. Its been a "scrambling" sort of day. . . .Ahhhh its great anyway serving the Lord. . . . .All glory and praise to His wonderful Name! Name above every name! Jesus Christ!

YESTERDAY - MONDAY JANUARY 23, 2006

I am serving as Vol. Chap. this week at the local Baptist Memorial Hospital. After visiting the patients yesterday morning and having lunch at the hosptial, Karen and I took the rest of the day off and took care of some personal business. We also did some traveling, sightseeing, and grocery shopping.

We got home about 10:30 pm and Jason was already home. He went with the Bethel Choir to Alabama (Birmingham Area) where they did four concerts over the weekend. Two of those were at schools recruiting seniors for the choir. Jason told us about his trip for the next hour and how he and four others enjoyed staying with a church member way out in the country. He was telling us all the things he enjoyed there - hot tub, and all kinds of cooked items. He said, "you think this is country you ain't seen nothing until you go to Alabama." Of course Karen and I had to tell him we have been through Alabama several times when we pastored in Louisana. We had a good time of laughing and had a good visit with him.

This morning was not the typical day. . . .Later. . . .

THE MOVIE "WALK THE LINE"

For those of us who are country music listeners (I like a lot of it but not all), we understand that the movie about Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, "Walk The Line" won several Golden Globe awards. Not everyone went to the movie - not even all of the family of Johnny Cash. The movie I thought was biased more towards the early rough life of Johnny Cash and did not balance with the latter years of his life when he accepted the Lord and became an active supporter of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It did not show any of his times of singing with Billy Graham crusades nor did it show anything about the movie "The Gospel Road" of which Johnny Cash played a huge part. If there is to be a sequel, I hope it does not leave out Johnny and June as Christians and avid supporters of the Gospel. If you want to know what family member did not like the movie and, reportedly, did not see it go to the link below. Also the link below that is Johnny Cash's official web site. Thank you Father today for Your Son. Thank You for sending Him and thank You Lord Jesus for coming. Thank You Holy Spirit for leading us in the right paths. We are Your People and the sheep of Your pasture, yet, so many are busy with their own agendas - gone astray. So many have other interests that takes too much of their time - gone astray. So many let material things come between them and obeying and serving you - gone astray. Mighty God show us our ways. Open our eyes to what You desire and lead us in the way everlasting. SUNDAY JAN. 15, 2005, SCRIPTURE AND PRAYER

Gal. 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Thank You Father for the wonderful baptism of the Holy Ghost. Thank You for the guidance, comfort, teaching and leading that He provides. Help me today and every day to walk in the Spirit. I pray that love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance will overflow in my life and that the things of the flesh (selfish, carnal innner person) will be pushed further and further down until each day Christ shines in my heart and life. I ask that you be with us today in our services and that any lost person there will find you as their Savior and Lord. Keep those who travel to church today safe. It is storming out, and I know that some will not want to get out. Please let them know that you will be with them and that they can come safely to the sanctuary to worhip you. In the wonderful, powerful, holy, name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

VISITS TODAY

Karen and I went to lunch and ate with the family of Bill Hall after the burial. After visiting with Sister Lois Thomas around 1:00-1:30 pm, Karen and I visited with J. C. and Brownie Palmer in Camden from about 1:45-2:15. Then got back home around 3:45 and rested a short while and then went and visited with Rita Moore and her son Travis from 5-5:45 pm. Rita requested prayer for Brother James who has had stomach upset and was bitten by something leaving two big whelps on him.

We got back home about 6:30 pm and I walked up the street about 3 houses from the church and visited with Jimmy and Virginia Davis. We had a good visit. Jimmy's mother, Willodene, had her pacemaker battery replaced in surgery yesterday. I was unable to be there and told them about Brother Bill Hall's death and funeral planning, etc. They were very understanding. We had a good visit. I thanked them for their past visits to the church and encouraged them to come any time to our services. They are one of the new couples coming to church. She operates a daycare in two different homes and He works at Dupont. They were very friendly and open to my visit. We shared testimonies of healing and how the Lord has brought us through some difficult times. Mr. Holland, Virginia's grandfather came over as I was leaving and we had a brief but good visit.

It is 8:30 pm and there is more studying and praying to be done for the services tomorrow.

LOIS THOMAS'S MOTHER DIES

After officiating Brother Hall's burial in Camden Memorial Garden, Karen and I visited Sister Lois Thomas in her home in Camden. Her mother passed on this past Wednesday. Sister Karen and I took her a card and musical angel and had prayer with her. Sister Lois and Brother Charley are on their way tonight to the funeral which is tomorrow in Sevierville, TN. Our prayers are with them.

HOMEGOING CELEBRATION OF JAMES (BILL) HALL

The homegoing celebration of James Bill Hall was conducted this morning at 10 am. Family and several friends attended. Brother Hall is now in the presence of the Lord. He will be greatly missed. While this was a difficult time for the family and friends, it gave me as Pastor an opportunity to get to know some folks and to minister to family and friends that I have not met before. All of the family and friends were so kind to Karen and I. Brother Bill was married to the late Reba Elizabeth (Sanders) Hall. She is the daughter of charter members John and Esther Sanders, who contributed much time and effort in the building of the basement back in the late 40's and later the sanctuary in the mid 50's. All of John and Esther Sanders' children were there and it was an honor to meet them some of their children and families and hear some of the stories of the beginnings of the church here at Huntingdon. We pray that God will bless this family and help us reach out to them.

FINAL FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR JAMES BILL HALL

The family of James Bill Hall will be receiving friends from 5 pm - 8 pm today, January 20th, at the Dilday Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at Dilday Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21st, at 10 am, officiated by Pastor Milton Gordon. Burial will be in Benton County Memorial Gardens in Camden, Tennessee. Brother Hall is survied by one brother, Mr. Joe Hall, of Camden, Tennessee. He also has numerous nieces, nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Brother Hall was faithful in attending the Church of God of Prophecy in Huntingdon, Tennessee.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE AND PRAYER

James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Heavenly Father, I come to You today through Your son Jesus. Thank You for being my God and my Savior. Thank you for You and all You are. O How great, awesome, holy, immutable, and glorious You are. Sometimes in life we face things that are difficult and try us sorely. I take courage in the promise of the Word today, "that the trying of [my] faith works patience." I pray that You will impart more grace in my life and spirit so that patience will do a complete work in my life. Give added strength and grace to Brother Bill Hall's family today. He suffered greatly for a while but You heard his cry and he is now resting with You. There are struggles that each person faces in this life and only You, O Lord can impart what is needed to bring us to a place in Jesus that will sustain us. There are many going through trials in the church here, physically, mentally and spiritually. Please, let them know that You are working a far greater, eternal purpose in their lives. Help me to "count it all joy," not to complain and forgive any attitude or spirit that is unlike you. Doubts and fears try to arise during trials and tests. Help me put full confidence in You, O mighty God. Help me "count it all joy," and to "let patience work completely in me" so that Your Son's life will mature in me to the fullest extent and that I will become more like Him day by day. . .to the glory of God. . . .Amen!

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR BILL HALL

Dilday Funeral Home in Huntingdon, TN will be receiving family and friends for visitation on Friday, January 20, 2005 from 5 pm to 9 pm. The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, January 21, 2005 at 10 am at Dilday Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Milton Gordon. Mr. Bill Hall is survived by one brother and several nieces and nephew, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

PASSING OF BROTHER BILL HALL

Brother Bill Hall's suffering is over. His testimony was that, "I am ready to go any time." Brother Greer, General Baptist Pastor in Camden, TN and Nephew by marriage to Brother Bill, and I prayed with Brother Hall at approximately 3:50 pm. He was having great difficulty breathing. His Niece said that his breathing became scattered around 4:05 and he passed on shortly thereafter. She said he went very peacefully with no struggle. Brother Bill was 88 years on this earth and now is in eternity with the Lord. We will miss him but he is where he wanted to go as he said, "any time." He testified to being saved and knowing Jesus as Savior since he was a young man. One of the great testimonies to this gentleman is that when his wife had a stroke and survived but was crippled and unable to even feed herself, Brother Bill visited her in the Rehab. Center twice a day for many years and, then, when his doctor told him that he must slow down and take care of himself he visited her every day, feeding her and caring for her, for over twelve years before she died. Brother Bill was also an avid walker and walked two miles every day until last August when his doctor told him he needed to cut back. He then walked a mile for a while until he found out he had cancer and then he rode an indoor exercise bike up until a couple weeks ago before he became too weak to even paddle it. He had a tumor on an artery that was inoperable and it finally broke through and the bleeding made him very weak. He told me this past Tuesday in his home, "I would like to come to church again but I have been so weak." I assured him that we all understand and are praying for him. He always was receptive to prayer and thanked me and the church for praying. He had a gentle, easygoing spirit right up to his last breath when God took him on home. Not many left in this country like Brother Bill Hall. . .He will be greatly missed but now we believe is where he was longing to go.

Dear Heavenly Father, help me today to be a witness for You everywhere I go. Let the Holy Ghost, I pray, remind me that You are my Lord and Master and that I am your child. May what I do and say glorify You and show others Jesus Christ. Anything that I do that is unlike you, please cover with your grace, blood and love. Be with me in a great measure as I pray, study and visit. Let your light shine in me so that others may see You. Bless our family and congregation and let them be a light for You today. I ask these things in the wonderful, holy, most powerful name of Jesus. AMEN!

PRAYER MEETING

The prayer meeting tonight at the Huntingdon Rehabilitation Center was awesome, to say the least. From the beginning until the end the Holy Ghost was present. We were thankful to see sister Bonnie (Curtis) Crossno and two of her African American friends, Sister Parker and Sister Betty. God blessed as we prayed for many different requests and gave thanks to HIM. The worship was saturated with the presence of the Lord. We anticipate another great time there next month and look forward to announcing the prayer meeting for next Wednesday night in a home or in a public place here in Huntingdon. We are asking, seeking and knocking for God's way and will be manifested among us.

BILL HALL

Brother Bill Hall was rushed to the hospital today. He is really needing prayer. Lets pray for brother Bill asking God to give him rest and comfort during this time. Only God knows his need at this time. He is having a very difficult time breathing. He is passing blood from his lungs. Pray for his family to have strength during this time. We had a time of prayer as we visited with him today.

PRAYER MEETING TONIGHT AT HUNTINGDON REHABILITATION CENTER

Prayer meeting is scheduled tonight at the Huntingdon Rehabilitation Center (nursing home). Sister Bonnie (Curtis) Crossno is there and others may come too. We will meet there at 6:15 pm in the dining hall (there is ample room and a piano) and, hopefully, get started at around 6:30 pm. The staff there asked if others could come too and, of course, we said, "YES!" Lets come together and pray for these precious people and for other needs as God directs our prayers. Hope to see you there.

YESTERDAY & TODAY 01/17/06 & 01/18/06

Yesterday and today, Karen and I have been helping Jason get into his second semester at Bethel College. We spent time getting books, getting a used tire and working on his car and transporting him back and forth since his car would not run yesterday and it also had a flat tire. We had about 1 inch of snow yesterday evening and last night, which did not stay on the roads, but was messy and cold - it was beautiful on the trees and shrubs.

The Renaissance Choir had its first concert of the semester at the West Nashville CP church last night. Karen and I were up until he called to come get him at 11 pm off the tour bus. I finally got his car going this morning after replacing the spark plug/rotary cap wires. The wires were burnt on the end and not connecting. It starts great now. It is old (92 Dodge Spirit) but it still gets you where you want to go.

Brother Leon Reynolds is still working on the bathroom floors in the basement. Things are really looking great. He told me that he put the first coat on the lady's restroom. The chairs have new rubber ends on them and it looks so much brighter in the basement. Brother Leon came to the parsonage to tell me that he got permission to have prayer meeting at the Carroll Co. Rehab. Facility (nursing home) for tonight at 6:30 pm. Sister Bonnie (Curtis) Crossno is there and others may come too. We are seeking God for other doors to open since we are not having mid-week service at the church during January. I am contacting the person over the county jail to see if I can come minister or visit there.

Brother Terry Bear, Camp Hickory Hills Manager, called at 7:45 this morning to ask about marriage counseling for a couple he knows in his area. I referred him to another counselor but he asked if I would see them. I advised him that I would see them as a counseling minister since I do not have a state counseling license of any type but do have experience and a counseling core degree. He said he would tell the couple and give them my phone number.

PRAYER REQUESTS & FOLLOW-UP NEEDS

Brother Bill Hall continues to need prayer. He is mostly homebound and has a difficult time breathing. Sister Donna Crossno's Father needs prayer. Sister Willodene Davis is having a pacemaker replacement this coming Friday at the Jackson Hospital. Continue to pray that Karen or I will find some type of work. God knows our needs and will supply. Pray for revival to be more prevalent in our church and among our people. Pray for the children and youth of the church here. Pray for those who are not saved in our families and in the community to come to know Jesus as Saviour. Pray for the leaders in countries, nations, state, towns, in the church worldwide, nations, states and local. So much to pray about and to pray in the Lord's will.

GODLY CONTENTMENT

B. Godly Christian Contentment, 1 Timothy 6:6-8

"Barclay says, 'Contentment comes from an inner attitude to life'.1 If a pastor is not content inwardly with her/his relationship with God, how can the pastor expect to shepherd people who need that daily close relationship with God? Verse 8 says, "But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that" (NIV). There are commentaries which indicate that this verse includes basic necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, and in our time, means of transportation. Every pastor, minister, evangelist and missionary is tempted at times to want more. The human nature of man seeks to have more. At times, this brings discontent in our lives. It is then that one realizes God has promised daily needs not all the wants that come to mind. The Holy Spirit brings the realization that godly contentment is having God - even when struggles come in material matters. The Apostle Paul must have faced this.2

One has to wonders what the Apostle meant when he said, "for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content" (Philippians 4:11b). It is understand that the condition Paul faced in Asia was beyond any measure of his being able to possibly supply the need that he had at the time. He says, "For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life. . . ." (2 Corinthians 1:8). He further commends some by saying, 'Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf" (v. 11). God has a way of sustaining those who sincerely trust him and the temptations that come are thwarted by the joy of knowing such an awesome, providential God. Milton Gordon 10/2005

MINISTERIAL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE

Karen and I returned from MDI around 5 pm.

Bishop E. C. McKinley opened with a welcome to all. The intensive was great and very pertinent for the ministry of today. Sister Londa Richardson, TCBL Director, moderated the intensive. There were presentations covering passages in the book of 1 Timothy. There were times of worship and prayer as we viewed videos powerfully demonstrating the greatness of God. There were presentations by Steve McDonald ("Sound Doctrine"), Winston Reid ("Our Vocation"), Paul Holt ("Public Worship & Order"), E. C. McKinley ("Standards of Leadership"), Tim McCaleb ("The Character of the Church") and "Fidelity To True Religion" was taught by class discussion with Sister Londa Moderating. There were focus groups for personal expression and discussion of the class material seeking for positive insight to become better leaders who lead in teaching doctrine, in worship and in maintaining the foundations. There was an open forum on "Proper Relationships." Sister Londa also had "Building Blocks of Ministry" interspersed throughout the intensive. Dr. E. C. McKinley concluded the intensive with "Sharing Your Faith." The cooks did a fantastic job. The food was great! Several ministers were there for the first time, including lay ministers, trial deacons, and pastors. It seemed that each one left with a greater determination to seek God and to become more involved in their respective ministry.

MINISTERIAL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE

Karen and I will be attending the MDI on the Dickson Campground (Hickory Hills) Friday evening and Saturday. This is scheduled and prepared for minister's in training, minister's seeking licensure and pastor's who desire to come and give input. The study text is a book written by Dr. French Arrington, Professor at Church of God Theological Seminary. The book covers 1 Timothy. Dr. Arrington is an accomplished professor and teacher of the Bible. I had him for a class in seminary.

Jason will be here and is continuing at Bethel College on a music scholarship in Bethel Renaissance Choir.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS FELLOWSHIP

The Family and Friends Fellowship went well last night. There were three visitors there from the community. Mrs. Britt and her two sisters were there. Mrs. Britt is a neighbor who is the daughter of two of the original members of the church, John and Esther Sanders. We were very happy to see these visitors and the members and friends who came. Thank God for each family and each friend who attends the church here at Huntingdon.

God did bless Jacob miraculously. But the greed and jealousy of Laban and his sons resulted in a hostile attitude toward Jacob, the servant of God. The LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers . . . and I will be with thee. . . . I am the God of Bethel, where thou . . . vowedst a vow (made a pledge) unto Me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred (Genesis 31:3,13).

After 20 years, Jacob was returning home with his two wives, two concubines, 11 sons and one daughter, and many servants and flocks. Esau, who had maliciously threatened to kill Jacob (27:41-45), was approaching with 400 men and Jacob was greatly afraid (32:3,6-7). He hastily divided his wives, children, servants, and flocks into two groups, reasoning that if Esau should come upon one camp and destroy it, the remaining camp could escape in the opposite direction.

Cooperative Initiative Renewed, Goals Announced

A Cooperative Prayer Initiative for 2006 between the Church of God and Church of God of Prophecy has been announced for the week of Pentecost Sunday, May 28-June 4.

LOCAL NEWS & PRAYER & PRAYER REQUESTS

Mrs. Britt, a neighbor up the street, came by and visited for about an hour yesterday. She gave us some history of the church as she told us that her mother and dad were instrumental in getting the church started back in the late 40's. Her mother and dad were Sanders. She informed us that they were members of the church when it first started. She had told me earlier on the phone that she was asking each of her brothers and sisters to donate to the new church project. We enjoyed the visit.

I had several calls yesterday asking how I am doing. Sister Jennie Sanders (no relation to the above Sanders) called and asked how we were doing. She told us that her tithes is ready and to come by when we could. She does not get to attend much and when we visit she gives us her tithes to turn in. She is a faithful Christian, church member and prayer warrior.

Sister Mildred Stacy came by and brought an offering. She is not a member but seems like one. She has been recovering from surgery on her eye and hand. She always expresses her love and care to us.

Brother James Moore called and ask how I am doing. He talked to Karen and reminded her to pray for Sister Rita and Travis since they have been sick. It seems that some type of bacteria or virus is going around here that affects the respiratory and digestive system. Several of our people are reporting the same symptoms.

I called Sister Ruth King since she was out again and she reported that she and Rita are doing some better but still have some of the symptoms.

Sister Donna Crossno called yesterday to ask how Karen and I are doing. She informed us that Alton and Delilah are still coughing profusely and having the same symptoms as others.

As pastor I feel the weight of these that are sick. I am praying and ask that the Lord heal through the mighty name of Jesus. He knows our need best and we can trust him.

Please remember these in prayer and other non-published requests. God sees and knows each one.

Today's Devotional Reading From Ron Hutchcraft

As your parents get older, they love to tell those stories - sometimes many times. We've enjoyed hearing some of the family stories that my wife's Dad had to tell. It's filling in a lot of blanks, actually, as we try to put together the history of the last couple of generations. We asked him once about that little girl named Ada. My wife's grandfather, Granddad Glenn, had one child - her Dad. And he wanted a sister! So, Granddad Glenn traveled from their small town to a major city to check out the adoption possibilities at an orphanage there. I don't know if he was prepared for the reception he got there. Everywhere he went, children asked him if they could go home with him. But there was this one dark-haired, dark-eyed little girl who just wouldn't leave his side. Her name was Ada. She wouldn't let go of Granddad's hand, and she kept looking up at him with her big brown eyes and begging him, "Please let me go home with you. Please take me." He did. And my wife's Dad got his sister.

PRAISE REPORT

Gene Crossno came through liver sugery fine. One-third of his liver was removed and all the cancer was reported to be taken out. He is doing well but still weak from surgery. Thank God for this report. God is Awesome! Let us not forget to remember Him when we are doing well and when we are not doing well.

WHY GO TO CHURCH?

(From Karl Laws) A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So I think I'm wasting time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all." This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals, but for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!" When you are DOWN to nothing .... God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!

SUNDAY SERVICES - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS?

Karen did a great job of moderating and bringing the message yesterday. She preached about trusting in Jesus and not getting eyes focused on anyone or putting anyone on a pedistal - except Jesus. I was able to attend but just sat through the services on the front pew with a guitar stumming along. The people here are very understanding. Last night was our monthly worship in singing, testimonies, poems, readings and writing. It was a great time. We were glad to have visitors Mr. and Mrs. Holland live a few houses up the street from the church.

If you read this BLOG, I need your opinion. Should a lead pastor go to church when he/she is sick (nothing contractual)? Should a lead pastor stay home when s/he is sick (not including contractual sickness? Should it be left to the pastor to decide?

Factors to consider. For example, yesterday, most people told me that I did not look like I felt well (duh). I do understand their care and concern. Some leaders say that a leader should not let those under him/her see weakness in any form in the leader. Some leaders say that being vulnerable shows our humaness and lets those under leaders know that they can be vulnerable and open.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION? WHAT DO YOU THINK?

LIFE GOES ON BLOG OR NO BLOG

I am glad to be back about 3/4 of my normal strength (estimate) after going through some horrific pain and weakness from a kidney infection with fever at hight point of 102.5. As I wrote in the last BLOG, I have these recurrent infections (so say the doctors) from past surgical scarring. They tried to correct it twice but I think it made it worse. Anyway life continues. Life is not always fair but God is just and fair. I am so glad Jesus promised he would never leave us nor forsake us - no matter what comes and goes in our lives.

FEELING BETTER

I have not felt well the past few days with a urinary tract infection. I have recurrent kidney infrections from past surgical scars and blockage. Thanks to all who prayed. I am better today and hopefull with a little more rest, I'll be back full strength. Karen will be ministering in this morning's service. We will see how it goes today and if I get enough strength back I'll be ministering tonight. Thanks and God bless. . . .

My mother called today and requested prayer for Tony's wife Pascha (my brother and sister-in-law). The right side of her heart is not working. She is presently in the hospital and is having a stint placed in her heart at Oak Ridge hospital. Please pray for Pascha, Tony and their twins, Anna and Carrie.

Gleanings

Many people have been hurt by those calling themselves Christians and by the organized church. That is not a surprise as the church is full of flawed people (after all none of us is perfect). The fact that we are not perfect is not meant to excuse the things that have happened, simply offer an explanation.

The problem is compounded by the fact that many people look upon Christianity as a religion, with rules, regulations and traditions that must be followed. There is a religious aspect to Christianity, but Christianity is first and foremost about relationships. It is about a relationship with the Living God. . . .

VISIT

I visited with Sister Willodene Davis in the Hospital here in Huntingdon. She is feeling better but has been advised to have more testing. She says she is ready to go home but will follow her doctor's advice. Her daughter, Dorothy, sister Earlene, her Brother and Sister-in-law from Illinois were there. We had a great visit and prayer together. Remember to pray for this Sister. She is one of the new people at our church.

"The Life of Power to Follow "

"And when He had spoken this, He said to him, ’Follow Me’ " ( John 21:19 ). Three years earlier Jesus had said, "Follow Me" ( Matthew 4:19 ), and Peter followed with no hesitation. The irresistible attraction of Jesus was upon him and he did not need the Holy Spirit to help him do it. Later he came to the place where he denied Jesus, and his heart broke. Then he received the Holy Spirit and Jesus said again, "Follow Me" ( John 21:19 ). Now no one is in front of Peter except the Lord Jesus Christ. The first "Follow Me" was nothing mysterious; it was an external following. Jesus is now asking for an internal sacrifice and yielding (see John 21:18 ).

PRAYER MEETING

Thank God for a great time of prayer at the parsonage tonight. God was present as we cried out to Him to seek Him and His will. God blessed greatly and we thank the Lord for each one present.

PRAYER MEETING TONIGHT

Prayer meeting starts here at the parsonage at 7 pm. We want to seek the Lord. "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" (Heb. 11:6)

NEW BABY BOY

Sister Karen and I visited with Shiloh and her New Baby Boy this afternoon. The baby weighed 7 lbs and 8 oz. (I think) and was 18. something inches long with long dark hair. She hasn't settled on a name yet. Congratulations Shiloh.

Sister Cathy Coleman has another grandchild. She was beaming. Thank the Lord that both are doing well.

COAL MINERS

This morning it was sad to hear that 12 of the 13 miners in WV were expired - especially after hearing that they were all alive. This was a travesty for the families and the people there after spending over 40 hours waiting to hear. Our prayers and hearts go out to these families.

WHERE I live in Florida, we have an insect known as the fire ant. Tese little creatures build small anthills in lawns and gardens and are pests to gardeners. Sometimes when I am working in my garden, I can feel the sting of four or five of these insects simultaneously. Right away I apply a soothing balm that helps to ease the pain until the bites heal and my hands return to normal in a few days.

Adoniram Judson (1788-1850) was gifted with a brilliant mind. He learned to read at age 3, could translate Greek at 12, and enrolled in Brown University when he was 16. While there he was befriended by Jacob Eames, a man who rejected the miracles of the Bible. When Judson graduated as valedictorian in 1807, he had been so influenced by Eames that he denied his Christian faith.

One night, when Judson was staying at a village inn, he was disturbed by a man moaning in the next room. The following morning he asked the innkeeper about the ailing man. He was told that the man had died and that his name was Jacob Eames.

TODAY

This morning I continue to have congestion and a nagging cough and a lot of phlegm. I called and have a doctor's appointment at 10:45 am. Karen insisted that I go to the doctor again since I have had this since just after Thanksgiving Day. I have no fever and feel fairly well. Guess I better follow my wife's advice. Your prayers are appreciated.

NEW PROPERTY AND BUILDING DEVELOPMENT PLANS

Brother James Moore (Sunday School Superintendant and one of the church trustees) informed me that he had gotten a bid on an 80' x 120' all-purpose metal building completed with insulation at a quote of around $47-49000.00. We anticipate the time when we can get started on this project, get the property paid off and get the building completed and paid for. We want to move forward in the work of the Lord - for His glory and honor.

There is a rumor in the air that someone is getting donations from each of their family members that will go toward the property development. . . .Lets see what happens. . . . .God is moving. . .let us move with Him. . .

For those who would like to come and pray on Sunday morning, we meet at 9:30 am before Sunday School to have a time of prayer seeking God's will for the new property development. Just drive in and join us as you stay in your car and pray or get out and pray. Brother J. E. Moore and I have been meeting and praying at this time for about 2 months now.

PRAYER MEETINGS and FAMILY FELLOWSHIP MEETING

The only scheduled service at the church on Wednesday evenings for January will be Family Fellowship on January 11th at 7 pm in the basement. Bring food and come as you are.

Prayer Meeting, Wednesday (tomorrow evening), January 4th at 7 pm at the parsonage. This will be the first of several prayer meetings that we plan to have in homes during the next several months.

BASEMENT FLOOR

Brother Leon, Sisters Susie, Lori and Josie cleaned the basement and set the tables and chairs back up today. The floor looks very nice after sanding, two coats of paint and two coats of polyurethane. Thanks to those who worked on this project. We want to keep God's house looking great.

ON BEING SEARCHED OF GOD

Sermon exerpt by Charles G Finney. . . .


"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts; and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."--Psalm 139:23, 24.

These words occur at the close of that wonderful Psalm, written under a vivid sense of God's omniscience and omnipresence, and which begins--"O Lord, thou hast searched me and known me."

In treating my text, I propose,

I. To show when this prayer, always appropriate, is especially and peculiarly so.

1. When persons are in spiritual darkness, and have low and faint conceptions of spiritual things. Then they have great reason to suspect that something is wrong, and should be searched out that it may be set right. It must be that something separates between your soul and God, and you should set yourself to urge this prayer unceasingly.

2. In a state of spiritual insensibility let men cry to God in like manner to be searched. When you do not feel the power of truth, you may be assured something is wrong, and you certainly should not rest till it be searched out. Those who suffer themselves to remain in such a state, without enquiry for the cause, wrong their own souls.

3. When the mind is oppressed with a sense of guilt, but does not clearly see where the guilt lies, no one should remain at ease at all till the whole matter is searched to the bottom. Often persons carry a sense of guilt in their souls a long time, yet do not see the particular cause. Probably they will not see it, unless the Spirit of God search them thoroughly. Hence, they should cry mightily unto him for his searching power.

4. When in attempting to approach God, you find access denied you. You try to pray, but find no access to God. Your prayer seems to be shut off; it falls, but never rises toward God. Then you should enquire why your Father's door is shut against you, and why, when you try to come to a throne of grace you can get no access to it. Then ask God to search you.
Again, when you have no spirit of prayer. When you have no inclination to go to God; when you know you need blessings, but do not feel inclined to go to God and seek them in earnest prayer; then cry to God for the searching grace of his Spirit.

BILL HALL

Brother Bill's voice is still very low and almost like a loud whisper. Doctor's say the lung cancer has closed his voice box. We had a good visit and he asked about the church and how everyone is doing. God touched him as we prayed together. Lets hold Brother Bill up in prayer and fasting.

Pray for brother Bill Hall. He is very sick. The doctors have said that there is not much that can be done. Lets hold brother Bill up in prayer.

PRAYER FOR JENNIE SANDERS

Sister Jennie called this morning and said she continues to have swelling in her legs. She thanked Karen and I for the lunch we brought her yesterday. She is settled in to her new apartment and doing fine with the move. She is requesting prayer for her legs and strength to get back in church. She turned 87 young on January 1.

PRAYER

Thank you Father for another day to praise and worship You. Thank you for You and how great You are. May this be a day to love You and others and to walk in the Holy Spirit. Forgive me of the failures and sins in my life and help me to "lay aside every weight and sin that would easily beset me." Make me an instrument in your hands to love others and minister to others. Help me in the pastoral ministry here at Huntingdon to lead as You would have me lead. Bless the leaders of the church here and all the members and friends. Help us to reach out to the lost and hurting in this community. Bless the leaders in this country and around the world. Bless the leaders in the church and communities. Send revival to this country, I pray. In the wonderful, powerful, holy name above every name, Jesus Christ - Savior, King and Lord! AMEN!

TENNESSEE MINISTERIAL INTENSIVE

The Tennessee Ministerial Intensive is scheduled for Jan. 13-14. I have been asked to facilitate a focus group. See below for further information and click on link for registration.


Every January, the Tennessee Ministerial Review Board sponsors a Ministerial Intensive at Camp Hickory Hills. This year, the intensive is set for January 13-14, 2006. This is a time specifically for young/new ministers to gain knowledge on ministry-specific subjects. This year, our textbook is "Maintaining the Foundations - A Study of I Timothy." We encourage anyone interested in pursuing their ministry to attend this intensive. Lodging is provided at the campground. JENNIE SANDERS

Sister Jennie Sanders got moved to her apartment in the old hospital building downtown. I called and spoke with her a few minutes ago. She said her legs are swollen and she is sitting in the bed with the phone near her. Yesterday was her birthday. Karen and I are going to take her lunch to her today for her birthday. Thank God for this prayer warrior. She is now 87 years young. Remember her in prayer.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Remember these in prayer. This virus or flu bug or whatever it is, seems to be affecting many folks.

Sister Ruth King called yesterday and said that she and Rita have the virus bug, which I call "crud." I spoke to Sister Donna Crossno yesterday after church and she was not feeling well. Remember Sister Marie Moore who continues to have problems with swollen legs and diabetes complications. Pray for revival to come to the church here in a greater measure and for the lost in our families and in this community.

TODAY

Karen and I are getting into the new year. I have several things to get done today. After a time of devotion and prayer this morning, I began planning the rest of my day. I have to get my monthly pastor's report done, balance checkbook, pay some bills etc. Brother Leon is supposed to call me later today to put another coat of clearcoat on the basement floor. The floor looks so nice and clean.

Karen took down the CHRISTMAS tree today and is doing some online FAFSA work for Sarah and Jason. We are both getting into the flow of things after the long holiday season of rest and change of pace.

Jason has been visiting with friends and is supposed to be home later today.

NEW YEAR

The Lord blessed the services today. There were several out on vacation and doing other things but we were blessed with God's presence and each of us "renewed the altar of the Lord." God was among us and we are so thankful. May this year be a year of prayer and seeking the Lord and His will for the church here at Huntingdon. A spirit of prayer is among us to seek God and His will. May He be glorified!
