SADDENED BY DEATH NOTICE

I received an email (posted below) yesterday afternoon from Sister Annette Taylor of Harvest Partners. We are saddened to hear of the passing of Gertrudha James, the wife of Overseer Ntezimana James of Uganda/Sudan. We will be in prayer for this family. Brother James was with us for several days back in August.

The following is from Sister Annette Taylor of Harvest Partners. . .

Dear Brother James,

I have just received word from Bishop David Bryan about the unexpected home going of Sister Getrudha. What a terrible shock!!! I know that you must be feeling overwhelmed at such a loss in your life. I just can not imagine the emotions that are racing through your mind and heart right now.

Brother James, my heart aches for your loss and I am so sorry that you are having to walk through this valley. Sister Getrudha was a precious, precious lady and she will be dearly missed. May our GOD OF ALL PEACE AND COMFORT be very close to you and the children this very moment and in the days ahead. I know that we are not to question the plans and ways of our Lord, and I know that His ways are always perfect, but our humanness overwhelms us in times such as this.

Please know that my prayers are with you, your precious children, and all the church family of Uganda. Our God is faithful to embrace us with His loving arms during such times of need. May you experience His mighty strength and presence to carry you through these difficult moments as you are attending to all the many aspects and arrangements for Sister Getrudha’s memorial service. My love and thoughts are certainly with you.

Please know that you are loved and being lifted to the Throne Room of Heaven through prayer. I will be contacting your Harvest Partners to advise them of our great loss and Heaven’s gain, and seek their prayers for you, your children, and church family.

Love and Prayers,
Annette Taylor

YOUTH MOVING FOWARD

Thank God for the youth that met after church this past Sunday. Brother Paul Rivera, Youth Minister and myself spearheaded this time. The youth enjoyed pizza and drinks and then we did some planning and played some board games.

We thank God for those who attended including: Paul Rivera, Lori Rivera, Montana Maness, Dakota Maness, Wesley Spangle, Jacob Davis, B. J. Lawrence, Joyce Grace, Karen Gordon, Santana Cunningham, Jason Gordon, Daniel (Lori’s Friend), and Tyler Lawton.

The youth gathered around the piano and practiced some choruses for their worship time next Sunday evening. They will be leading the Sunday evening service.

The youth will be leading the services on each first and third Sunday evening of each month and will also plan the speaker for the evening. They will have the devotional, lead singing, have special singing, receive the offering, etc. Brother Paul will lead the youth in this ministry. We pray the Holy Ghost charges this time with His direction, power and anointing.

The youth also scheduled Saturday, February 10 at 7 pm for a sweetheart banquet. The youth will be preparing and serving a meal to the older adults to raise some funds for future activity.

The youth will also be working closely with the Pastor and Youth Minister in the upcoming revival. We will be doing some times of special and specific prayer for the lost, for witnessing, for boldness, and for open doors to minister to those who need Jesus.

We enjoyed a good time of playing Uno Attack and Sequence. Thank God for the youth of the church and their ministry for the Lord. We love our children and youth.

Sunday morning was great as the Lord blessed throughout the service. Thank God for His presence. This week was the final in this month’s series of messages on Stewardship.

This week was “Stewardship of Treasure.” How great it is to be given the responsibility to be a steward of God’s money that He gives to each of us.

We were blessed with songs by Lori Rivera, Delilah Mummel, Jason Gordon and one of our older kids, Tyler (the daughter of Carla Lawton).

After the morning worship service our youth met in the fellowship hall to enjoy a time of fun and planning. Brother Paul Rivera, Youth Minister, worked with the youth on some future events. See next post.

Sunday after morning worship there will be a Youth Fellowship/Planning Event in the dining hall. We will have pizza or some other type food, drinks, etc. There will be board games, fellowship and a time for the youth to plan their ministry here at the church. Brother Paul Rivera, Youth Minister, and I, Presently teaching the Teen Class, will be sponsoring this event. We are seeking God for a more actively, involved and spiritually dynamic youth ministry.

All ministries (Men's, Women's, Youth, Children's, Family, Senior's, Heritage) are vital here for the work of the church and we encourage each leader and worker to be actively involved.

NOTICE: No services on fourth Sunday evening. This is a time to plan something special with your family or rest at home with your family.

Wednesday, January 24, 2006, AWESOME TESTIMONY

Thank God for a great time last night. There was a great spirit of worship. The singing, testimonies and the bible study was great. Sisters Lori and Delilah worshipped in special singing.

Sister Cathy Coleman testified how the Lord supplied her daughter, Shiloh, with the finances to pay off her debts and get a vehicle for transportation. Shiloh had purchased a car a while back and had a wreck a few days ago with her three children in the car. No one was hurt and when the insurance company totaled the car and estimated the replacement cost it was over three times what Shiloh paid for the car - enough to pay some debts and get another one. God can take difficulties and turn them into blessings.

Sister Donna Crossno did an excellent Bible study on "Reaching Out in Ministry." She brought in the month's theme of Stewardship. We thank God for our gifted teachers and workers in the local church.

TODAY AND TONIGHT

Brother Leon and I worked on the clogged bathroom last night until around 10 pm. We took the commode off and tried to break the clog loose from that drain. No succes. We called it a night and Brother Leon said he would be back after getting his shop rolling in the morning. I did some studying and office work after that and was up until around 1 am trying to think of how to get the front bathroom unclogged. I dropped in bed a little after 1 am. We poured a solvent down the drain and now I am waiting until morning to flush it.

I was up this morning and ran some water in a large pan and heated it. I poured it down the drain and water bubbled up in the bathroom tub. So the solvent didn't work. I poured several more pans that bubbled up in the tub. So I was dipping and hauling water for over an hour this morning. Brother Leon came back over at 10:30 am. After discussing the problem for a while we decided to go rent a drain roto rooter. We went to Value Plus and they had an electgric one and a crank one. The electric one was very long and was larger so we rented the crank one. We came back to the parsonage and started pushing and craking the rooter. We ran all 50 feet in and nothing drained. We reeled it back in and sat very dissappointed. I was thinking of giving it one more try when Brother Leon said, "Lets try it again." We started cranking and pushing again. The rooter came to about the 40 feet and the commode pipe drained suddenly. We both shouted, "Thank you Jesus!"

Its good to have both bathrooms back and I can understand why a plumber gets paid so much. I did save some since I know it would have taken the plumber 4-5 hours to get to the problem. Thank God, its flowing great. Thats how I spent most of my day, replacing the commode, cleaning up the mess and now getting clean up.

Tonight is prayer and bible study. We are seeking God for a great time.

LADIES MINISTRIES MEETING

Ladies met tonight. Karen said Sister Susie had a great devotion and the ladies had a good time of discussion and fellowship. Thank God for Sisters who love the Lord and gives their lives for the Master. Karen said he Sister Susie's theme was friendship. Thank God that Jesus is our best friend and we are friends together with Him and us. So we are all friends together.

Brother Leon and I worked on the clogged bathroom at the parsonage while the ladies had their meeting. Still no success in the getting the drain to flow.

Thank the Lord for another great Sunday as the Holy Spirit moved in the house. The theme for this month "Stewardship" has brought challenges and encouraged new opportunities for those who are serious about serving God with all they are and all they have; as the Psalmist cried, "bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me bless His holy name." The Apostle admonishes, "present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. . ."

This Sunday the emphasis was "Stewarship of Gifts/Ministry." We thank God for those who are seeking God for direction in ministry and for those who have taken the challenge to minister in the gift God has graciously given to them - "as every man (everyone) has received the gift, so let them minister. . ."

God continues to give us strength and direction in the ministry at Huntingdon. We thank the Lord for the new teen class that now has four students. I am currently teaching this class and we are praying for the Lord to bless someone to be the regular teacher. Next Sunday there will be a youth fellowship after the Sunday worship service. Brother Paul Rivera, Youth Minister, and I will be ordering pizza and there will be games and fellowship.

Last evening's service was blessed of the Lord as we worshipped and glorified the King of Kings. The service highlight was when people lifted their hands, praying and worshipping around the altar and ministering to each other - for this we say - glory to God!. . .

It was good to see Sister Joyce Grace again. We found out that she now lives in Clarksburg and will have the opportunity to visit in the near future. WELCOME BACK HOME SISTER JOYCE! WE MISSED YOU AND WE LOVE YOU!

UPDATE, JAN. 16-20, 2006

It has been a few days since I posted. Karen and I have been on the road as we travel to and from Nashville, where Karen teaches school. We do have a room close to the school where she teaches and we stay there 2-3 nights a week.

After having a day off on Monday (Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday), we felt somewhat rested and ready to go again. Tuesday evening we were both exhausted after a long day of Karen teaching and I sub. teaching and studying. We got to the room around 6 pm after having our meal out together. I remember telling her goodnight around 7 pm and don't remember anything else until I woke up around midnight and relieved myself. I lay back down and spent some time in meditation as Karen rested. Most of my nights I am up every 3-5 hours and it gives me the opportunity to pray some and meditate some. Wed. Karen is back at school teaching and I took care of some business and studied and prayed for Wed. evening service.

We came in Wed. evening and got ready for the evening meeting. The fellowship and food was refreshing as we met in the fellowship hall. I continued with the theme of stewardship for the month (Stewardship of Giftedness). After a scriptural lesson presentation, I presented the ministry training/educational opportunity from Beacon Institute of Ministry that was presented at the Ministerial Development Institute in Dickson last Saturday (it will be presented to the church again Sunday). I am encouraged by this opportunity for our local members to become better equipped and trained for the service of ministry.

Thursday Karen and I were back in Nashville teaching and then on Friday evening we left for Huntingdon again. We stopped a couple places to get some needed IRS forms for the church's income tax needs and some ohther needs that we had. After getting home around 7 pm, Karen and I got busy with house chores (clothes washing, etc.). I did some work on my tax information forms and studied some. My eyes started closing and head drooping uncontrollably around 1 pm. So I told Karen I am heading for the sack. She was on the computer in Jason's room. We turned in around 1:30 pm.

Today (Saturday) we rested until about 8 am. After eating brunch, Karen started working on a quilt for Caleb, Heather's son and our grandson. I can't tell what the patterns are since it is to be first seen by Caleb before anyone else. It is something he likes very much. I did more work on my tax information and continued to try to unstop the front bathroom - still clogged.

This afternoon Karen and I visited with Sister Ruth King and Rita. Rita was resting. She is still recovering from pneumonia and COPD. She has to stay on an oxygen machine often. We had a good season of prayer with Sister King for Rita and for the family. Then we visited with the Jeff and April Davis Family (children, Jacob, Jonah and Jordan). We enjoyed a good visit and time of prayer. We also went by to visit with the Joyce Grace family. The house where they live was empty. We were surprised. We then went by McDonalds where Krystel Grace works and ask where they have moved. We found out that they have moved to Clarksburg which is about 12 miles out highway 22. I called and talked to Sister Joyce and told her we were so glad she was back in church with us last Sunday. She said she is planning to come again tomorrow.

Karen and I are now at home. She is continuing to work on the quilt for Caleb and I have been doing this post for the past 40 minutes. I have to finish my tax records for the church and do some more studying for tomorrow and also do some work on our bills and bank records.

To any and all who read this, may God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you and give you peace. As the Hebrews say, Shalom. . . .and as the 60's folks said, Peace. . .and as the scripture says, "we have a peace that passes all understanding. . ." Thank God for the Prince of Peace.

Monday, January 15, 2006

Karen and I were home most of the day Monday as the nation celebrated and commemorated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was an excellent example of what God's love embodies for all human beings everywhere. He said, "I have a dream," and that dream is becoming more of a reality as the decades go by.

I have spent most of the day doing catch up on office work (ministry reports, balance checkbook, etc. etc.) and trying to get our front bathroom unclogged. It has been clogged up now for over two weeks. Thankfully, we have the extra one in the back. I spoke to a plumber today who gave me some recommendations but time won't allow me to do that today. So I'll have to wait. . .

We continue this coming Wednesday evening with stewardship. We will begin a study on "The Ministry God Has For Me?"

We are continuiung to pray for the next step in our property development. The property is paid in full and has been landscaped with a new pavilion on it. Now we must move forward in our next endeavor. To those who read this, please help us pray for God's direction. We know it is His will to go forward but we need His direction. . . .

Sunday, January 14, 2006

Sunday was an execptional day as the Holy Spirit moved among us. We are truly blessed. We continued with the emphasis of stewardship and the message was "Stewardship of Time." Next weeks message is "Stewardship of Talents (gifts, skills, ministry)." Thank God for folks who see the blessedness in being good stewards of what God has given us to manage and be responsible for. HE IS WORTHY!

Thank God for the new folks who continue to come. The Jimmie Davis Family, the Jeff Davis Family, The Josh Lawton Family, Sister JoAnn Blow, Cody and Montana and their grandmother. It was great to see Sister Joyce Grace with us again. We missed her greatly. We also miss her children and family. We also appreciate, very much, our folks who work faithfully in ministry and church attendance every day. Huntingdon is blessed!

Tennessee Ministerial Development Intensive and Educational Initiative

Sister Karen and I traveled to the Dickson Campground for the Ministerial Development Institute yesterday. Pastor Chuck Burks, Jackson Pastor, traveled with us. The MDI was great! The instructors covered the material in the book by Dr. Ron Cottle , Anointed to Reign, very well, considering the brevity of time. Bishops and Pastors, Reid, Holt, Lawson, and Stone gave great emphasis on the way God directed David throughout his life as the anointed king of Israel. . .which is an example for us today in our spiritual walk with God. State Overseer, Dr. E. C. McKinley presented a stirring and challenging message on the elements of Revival. Dr. Ian Bond from Beacon Institute of Ministry gave an excellent presentation of the educational incentive that State Overseer, E. C. McKinley is presenting to the Pastor’s and ministers of Tennessee. Bishop McKinley will be initiating this educational incentive in sections of the state.

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

Tonight will begin our regular Wednesday evening meetings. During Christmas week and New Years week no Wedneday service were held. Tonight will be worship, prayer and a message. Thank God for the Holy Ghost who continues to empower, enlighten and encourage. We truly need to be a "Spirit Led" church. He wants to take us forward in the ministry of the gospel and the salvation of the lost and the discipleship of those who have accepted Christ as Savior.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 7, 2007

Thank God for another great Sunday. There were several out traveling but we thank God for a great presence of the Holy Ghost and a great spirit of worship. The message was, "Stewarship of Ministry." This month is stewardship emphasis throughout the church. We believe God blesses those who "prove Him" and are faithful in their stewardship of time, talent and treasure.

Sarah, my youngest child, visited with us today. She and Jason sang some worship songs. We thank God for His great presence. Our little grandaughter, Aviana, came too. Mamaw and Papaw love you!

JANUARY 2007 - STEWARDSHIP MONTH

January is stewardship month throughout the church. There will be messages and bible studies focused on stewardship. The three T's of stewardship are good for remembering the general areas on stewardship - Time, Talent & Treasure. Stewarship is a general word that can be used for any area of focus or emphasis in our lives such as - prayer, family life, vocation, study, etc. Basically, any area of the spiritual disciplines come under the heading of stewardship. The focus for January we will be using the three T's for messages and studies.

JAN. 2 - 4 UPDATE

On Tuesday Karen and I visited with Rita and James Moore. We enjoyed the visit and enjoyed hearing what each one received for Christmas. They have a new doggie (Snoopy, a Toy Terrier) and Karen enjoyed playing with it.

We then visited with Brother J. E. and Sister Marie Moore. We always have a great visit with this couple. He has served as a Deacon for a long time and has been very faithful in the work of the church.

Karen and I then left for Nashville around 9 pm. We stayed over in Nashville and arose early on Wed. the 3rd and headed for Manchester, TN. Karen visited with our youngest daughter's family (especially the granddaughter Aviana) while I took care of some business and did some maintenance work on our house in Manchester. I also enjoyed a time of visiting with them.

Today, I finished the work on my house and now we are headed back to Nashville. Karen has her first day of school (in-service) tomorrow. I have a Doctor's appointment scheduled for 9 am and will be doing some studying and plan to visit with Brother Payne and family at Vanderbilt Hospital.

To any and all who may read this. . . .may the Lord shine His face upon you and bless you greatly.

Sister Jennie Sanders Birthday

On this first day of the year Sister Karen and I had the opportunity and joy of taking Sister Jennie Sanders out to eat a birthday meal. She is 88 years young and continues to serve the Lord with fervor. We enjoyed the time together and had a great meal of hog jowl, black eyed peas, cooked cabbage, fried taters, corn bread, iced tea. Sister Jennie said, "That's just the meal I wanted on this first day of the year, but I wasn't expecting my Pastor and wife to be with me." We ask Sister Jennie about the traditional meal and what it means. She said, "Well I've heard if you eat those items in your meal on New Year's day you will have plenty of money the rest of the year." Then she jovially said, "But it has never worked with me." We enjoyed a good laugh together. God bless you Sister Jennie. We love you!

Bonnie (Crossno) Curtis Funeral Services

The memorial service and graveside service for Sister Bonnie Crossno Curtis are now completed. Manuel, her youngest son, personally conducted much of the chapel service. The readings that he and Ray (an older son) shared with the family and friends contained much of Sister Bonnie's life, character and ministry. He charactized his mother as a "Grand Lady" in her relationships, family care and character and a "Tough Ole Bird" in her trials, tests and tears. It was a very personable writing eulogizing his Mother. There were several beautifully appropriate songs that were very inspirational. Manuel and Ray are gospel singers in their own right. I sensed the presence of the Holy Spirit throughout the service. Great job, Manuel and Ray!

The graveside service was this morning at 10AM. The family and friends came and stood in honor of this faithful soldier of the cross. She has "fought a good fight, kept the faith and finished the race." Rest peacefully and joyfully with the Lord, Sister Bonnie."

I am thankful for this family and for the opportunity to serve.
