LOSING FIRST LOVE

Exerpt from sermon by Charles Finney.

"Many persons keep just enough of what they call religion to fasten their delusions on their own souls. By dint of resolution and self-impulses, they keep up the forms of family prayer and of public worship, and by these means, they sustain the delusion that they are true Christians. If they had dropped these forms and gone into open apostasy, they would have known themselves, and would not have once thought of maintaining a hope of personal religion. The delusion could not have existed. But those who maintain the forms of religion, and the forms only, cannot have the witness of God's Spirit - can have no evidence from their own daily experience, but content themselves to live on the most meagre allowance of testimony to their own piety. They dare not speak very confidently, yet they are hopeful. They love to bring up the case of persons who had a great many doubts, and yet, on the whole are esteemed good Christian people. Some of them live on the doctrine of election, or perseverance of saints. Some live on the case of those who were reclaimed just before death. They sing the backslider's hymns and pray the backslider's prayer. From every quarter they are picking up shreds of matter of every sort wherewith to feed their own delusion. Sometimes, to help themselves out of their trouble, they set themselves to pick flaws in better Christians than themselves. This avails to relieve their conscience a little."

TODAY

This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. I have been praying and studying for tomorrow's message. This year is almost past and the new year is upon us. "Dear Lord, may I be your servant to do your will throughout this coming year - each day and forgive me when I fail."

Karen and I rested most of this morning. Brother Leon came over around 11 am and we painted the basement floor with clear coat - finished around 1:30 pm. It looks much cleaner. I was feeling a littly "wuzzie" when I finally walked outside and got some fresh air.

Karen told me that Kathy and Don called earlier today and invited us to come visit and go eat with them. We are supposed to leave around 5:30.

TODAY

After morning quiet time and devotion and running some church errands, I helped Brother Leon Reynolds paint the first coat on the basement floor. It is looking clean and fresh. We are going to finish tomorrow by putting on the clear coat.

Karen and I left to visit with the family of Bishop Charles Gary in East Nashville, Phillips Robinson Funeral Home. We left around 2:30 pm and arrived around 4:50 pm just as State Overseer E. C. McKinley and wife Debra arrived. We visited with Sister Gary and the family. There were several flowers and visitors were coming and going. Another soldier of the cross has entered the final place of rest with Jesus.

Karen and I visited with some church friends (Brother O. B. and Sister Carolyn Stewart) who had called us earlier in the day and invited us to join them for dinner. We enjoyed the visit and fellowship. We pastored this couple at East Nashville. We are thankful for God's people everywhere. Their hospitality is beyond words of appreciation.

HOMEGOING

Bishop Charles Gary, Greater Nashville Area, District Presbyter, went home to be with the Lord this past Tuesday. I had the opportunity of working with Brother Gary for the 4 plus years I pastored at East Nashville. He was a faithful minister, father, friend and most of all Christian. He will be missed but his battle with Leukemia is over and now he is victoriously rejoicing with Jesus in paradise. Sister Doris, her children and his children request your prayers.

THANK YOU LORD - BACK HOME

I thank the Lord that we are back home safe. The roadways were very busy this past Saturday and today as well. Thank you Lord for a great time with family and friends and for a sense of freshness that you have imparted. Thank you for newness and freshness in you every day!

Karen and I arrived back home today around 3:30 pm, after a 4 1/2 day mini-trip. We visited with her family in Clarksville, TN, my family in Crab Orchard, TN and just rested most of Monday and Tuesday. I assisted my mother, brother and Sister Justice from Petros, TN at the Brushy Mountain Regional Prison church service last night. The Lord's presence was close to us as we ministered and as some of the prisoners ministered as well. We traveled back most of today. I stopped in to see my Uncle, Chester Green (who was like a father to me as a lad), who is in the Rehabilitation Center in Crossville, TN. His wife, Rozelle, went to be with the Lord this past Summer. We had a good visit. He speech is difficult to understand from the stroke he had a couple years ago, but when we prayed together, I could clearly hear the first word that came out of his mouth - JESUS. He still has that great smile, at 80 plus, even though he is unable to move around very much.

When we arrived back at the church, Brother Leon Reynolds was finishing the first coat of primer on the basement floor after he and his family sanded the old paint for the past two days. He told me he is coming back at 6 pm to put another coat on.

Karen and I have been unloading since we got here and checking email and mail. I hope to put some pictures and names on here later of family and friends.

Until next time. . . .

AMAZING 24 HOURS

Karen and I spent one of the most amazing 24 hours with our children and grandchildren. We had a great time and enjoyed the food, the fun, each other, the animals (most of them, me and Harley the cat hissed at each other several times - but he is a beautiful animal). The little mixed Earl/Pomeranian was so hyper and cute. Our dogs had a good time eating the left overs - ham, eggs, biscuits etc. I hope to put pictures on here but we are going to Karen's family tonight and then on to my family late tonight and tomorrow I want to wish all of you a very

Merry Christmas!

Here is a site with some pertinent words and thought and also a unique Christmas Card.

THEY'RE ALL HERE

All my children are here. We have every room filled with someone and the little ones on pallets. We've had a blast opening our little gifts and eating our dinner together. We had roast and gravy, ham, corn, turnip greens, rolls, macaroni and cheese, rice, mashed potatoes, several different kinds of drinks and desserts. It was a blast. Hopefully there will be pictures later.

We watched the "Best Christmas Pageant." A movie about some lower class children who helped in a Christmas play at the local church in town. It was a tear jerker. We are thankful to have our family with us - isn't that what part of Christmas is about.

Have a restfull night in the Lord.

VISIT

Earlier this morning, I went to visit with Donna and Alton Crossno and Delilah and Jeremy Mummel (daughter and son-in-law of the former) to take them their Christmas gifts. No one was at home. I left the gifts in the door and came back home.

Not long after I got back home, guess who came by - Donna and Delilah. We had a good chuckle and visited with them in the parsonage for a while. They are both feeling some better from the "crud" that has been going around. I told them I have been "drowning" myself in hot tea with honey and lemon and cinnamon and anything else hot I can get (chocolate, coffee) to cut this "crud" out of my throat and bronchial tubes. We had a good visit and wished them Merry Christmas.

Well, I can hear little Aviana talking in the front room and I'm gone. . . . .till later. . . .

EXCITEMENT AND WARMTH IS IN THE AIR

Karen and I have been enjoying Chris, Sarah and little Aviana. She is so cute and grand. Now I know why they call them grand - just had to write that. She is 2 yrs. and 7 mos. and is talking up a storm. Of course she has been doing that for over a yr and half now. She says about anything she wants to say. We are having a great time with her. I talked to Heather, and Danita, about 45 minutes ago and they are on the way and should be here between 4-5 pm. I pray for traveling safety and mercy. Sammy, Courtney and Caleb are with Heather. Shane and thier two doggies are coming with Danita.

Me and Harley the cat have had a couple run ins since he has been here. Don't like cates climbing on everything. I think he may get locked in the bedroom sometimes today. He He!

There will be pictures, hopefully, later today.

COULD IT BE? A LITTLE CHRISTMAS HUMOR

It's one day after Christmas, I'm crabby and I'm broke.
I'm so full of ham and fruitcake, I think I'm gonna croak.
It's nice to see the relatives,I wonder when they'll leave.
They've been camping in my bathroom since early Christmas Eve.
They're eating everything in sight and sleeping in my bed.
I been sacked out in the basement with my beagle, Fred.
The relatives have all gone out and left their screaming brats.
The toilet bowl is all plugged up and I can't find the cat.
It's Christmastime at my house, the relatives are here.
They eat me out of house and home. and drink up all my cheer.
I love the decorations, and the sleigh bells in the snow
But I wish those pesky relatives would take their kids and go.
Those cookie crunchers fed the dog a twenty pound rib roast.
His feet are sticking in the air like skinny old fence posts.
Now they're in a free-for-all, the girls against the boys.
They're fighting over boxes'cause they're bored with all their toys.
My mother-in-law is snoring in my favorite TV chair.
Those kids are stringing lights on her and tinseling her hair.
I oughta wake her up before the fireworks begin.
But I wanna see those blue sparks fly when they plug her in.

FAMILY

Sarah, Chris and Aviana got in around 11:35. They were the first of the three daughters and family to arrive for Christmas. We are so thankful that all of our children are to be with us on this great Christmas Celebration time. They brought their new cat - Harley. He has long hair, is huge and is de-clawed, thank goodness. I don't care for a cat in the house but at least he is de-clawed and has a liter box with him. Aviana was asleep so, Memaw and Pepaw did not get to see her tonight but she will be awake early and, guess who will be up early with her - thats right - Memaw and Pepaw. Goodnight.

VISITS TODAY AND PRAYER REQUESTS

Karen and I went to visit with Brother Leon (Chief Usher) and Sister Susie Reynolds (Women's Ministry and Care Leader). They were leaving to go eat out and invited us, so we enjoyed a good time of fellowhip and eating at Captain D's. Brother Leon is a cancer survivor and says, "the Lord kept me here and if the Lord wants me home tonight I am ready but its His will not mine that is important." We had a good visit and fellowship time together. They are very special leaders here at the church and we appreciate them very much.

We talked about prayer meetings at various places on Wednesday night. I am going to check with Sister Jennie to see if she is ready next week. If not we will have it at some other home or in the basement of the church if necessary.

We stopped by to visit with Gracie Florez and her daughter Celinas. We spoke to her briefly and will visit again sometime. She wants her new home dedicated. We will set a time for that service.

CONDITIONS OF PREVAILING PRAYER PART 3

Exerpts from a message by Charles Finney. . . .

"We must pass now to another condition of prevailing prayer; namely, that we be reconciled to our brother.

On this subject you will at once recollect the explicit instructions of our Lord; "If thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that they brother hath aught against thee; leave there thy gift before the alter, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift."

This passage states very distinctly one important condition of acceptable prayer, and shows that all men are not at all times in a fit state to pray. They may be in a state in which they have no right to pray at all. If they were to come before the Lord's altar in this state, He would bid them suspend their offering of prayer, go back at once, and be reconciled to their brother.

It is important for men to understand that they should approach God in prayer only when they have a right to pray. Others seem entirely to misconceive the relations of prayer to God and to themselves, and think that their prayers are a great favor to God. They seem to suppose that they lay the Lord under great obligations to themselves by their prayers, and if they have made many prayers, and long, they think it quite hard if the Lord does not acknowledge his obligation to them, and grant them a speedy answer. Indeed, they seem almost ready to fall into a quarrel with God if He does not answer their prayers.

I knew one man who on one occasion prayed all night. Morning came, but no answer from God. For this he was so angry with God, that he was tempted to cut his own throat. Indeed, so excited were his feelings and so sharp was this temptation, that he threw away his knife the better to resist it. This shows how absurdly men feel and think on this subject. . . .

In my labors as an Evangelist, I have sometimes fallen into a community who were most of them in this horrible state. Perhaps they had sent for me to come among them saying that they were all ready and ripe for a revival, and thus constrained me to go. On coming among them I have found the very opposite to be the fact. I would preach to the impenitent; many would be convicted; and awful solemnity would prevail; but no conversions. Then I would turn to the church and beg them to pray, and soon the fact would come out that they had no fellowship with each other and no mutual confidence; almost every brother and sister had hard feelings towards each other; many knew they had wronged their brethren and had never made confession or restitution; some had not even spoken kindly to one another for months; in short it was a state of real war; and how could the Dove of Peace abide there? And how could a righteous God hear their prayers? He could do no such thing till they repented in dust and ashes, and put away these abominable iniquities from before his face. . .

O for a heart to immerse and bathe ourselves, as it were, in the sympathies of Jehovah--to yield up really our whole hearts to him, until our deepest and most perfect emotions should gush and flow out only in perfect harmony with his will, and we should be swallowed up in God, knowing no will but his, and no feelings but in sympathy with his. Then wave after wave of blessings would roll over us, and God would delight to let the universe see how intensely he is pleased with such a spirit in his creatures. O then you would need only put yourself in an attitude to be blessed and you could not fail of receiving all you could ask that could be really a good to your soul and to God's kingdom. Almost before you should call, He would answer and while you were yet speaking he would hear. Opening wide your soul in large expectation and strong faith before God, you might take a large blessing, even 'until there should not be room enough to receive it'."

CONDITIONS OF PREVAILING PRAYER PART 2

The following is an exerpt from a message by Charles Finney. . . .

"Yet be it well considered, the precept, "Use not vain repetitions," should by no means be construed to discourage the utmost perseverance and fervency of spirit in prayer. The passage does not forbid our renewing our requests from great earnestness of spirit. Our Lord himself did this in the garden, repeating his supplication "in the same words." Vain repetitions are what is forbidden; not repetitions which gush from a burdened spirit.
This form of prayer invites us, first of all to address the great God as "Our Father who art in heaven." This authorizes us to come as children and address the Most High, feeling that he is a Father to us.

The first petition follows--"Hallowed be thy name." What is the exact idea of this language? To hallow is to sanctify; to deem and render sacred. . . .

How many times have I had occasion to rebuke this unforgiving spirit! Often while in a place laboring to promote a revival, I have seen the workings of this jealous, unforgiving spirit, and I have felt like saying, Take these things hence! Why do you get up a prayer-meeting and think to pray to God when you know that you hate your brother; and know moreover that I know you do? Away with it! Let such professed Christians repent, break down, get into the dust at the feet of God, and men too, before they think to pray acceptably! Until they do thus repent all their prayers are only a "smoke in the nose" before God. . . ."

WEDNESDAY EVENING SERVICES

This was the first evening of the recent schedule that the church decided on in a business meeting last week. I am asking that members and friends pray in their homes and also get together for prayer meetings in homes. There will be no Wednesday evening meetings, except for January 11th at 7 pm, for the rest of this year and until the end of January when we will discuss the schedule again. As pastor, I want to encourage meetings in homes, nursing homes, jails, community buildings, etc. Sister Jennie Sanders is moving to an apartment here in town and said she is looking forward to having prayer meeting there and that we can even move out into the lobby area. We want to get involved in our community and get the message of Christ to all that we meet. There are many ways to minister and we need to get outside the walls of the church to reach out to others. I have written a letter to our leaders and others explaining this. Lets move forward in the Lord in reaching out to others. Gracie, Sister Susie's daughter, has recently moved into her home and wants it dedicated. We are planning a prayer meeting there and a dedication ceremony.

VISITS

I went by Brother Stanley's to drop of a VHS of a gospel presentation. He was not feeling well and we prayed for him. The Holy Spirit blessed in a marvelous way and God touched him. PRAISE THE LORD!

Karen and I visited with several today. Earlier today we visited with Carla Lawton and her daughter Tyler and son Brandon. We enjoyed a good visit and wished them a Merry Christmas. We also stopped by and wished April Davis and her children a Merry Christmas.

We visited with Sister Lennie Mae Crossno at the McKenzie Rehabilitation Center. She is doing okay. I administered Communion to her. We had a good season of prayer. The visit went well.

We were invited to come and have dinner tonight with Deacon J. E. Moore and wife Marie. We had a good time of visiting and fellowship with them. Brother Moore always shows concern and care for the pastor and family and the church - for which we are very thankful. He has spent many hours working on the landscaping of the new property without any pay or remuneration. Thank you Brother Moore and also his son James. They both have worked diligently to get things ready to start building. We are continuing to seek the Lord to help us make the best decisions in this time of building and development of the property. We had a good season of prayer before we left to come home.

PRAISE REPORT AND PRAYER REQUEST

We are thanking God and praising him for a good report from Gene Crossno. Sister Donna had requested prayer for him last week. He was diagnosed with liver cancer a while back but yesterday was told that it is a very small localized spot that can be easily removed. We thank God for this report.

Please pray for Willie who is a relative of Jeremy Mummel, Delilah's husband. He has pancreaitis and is having a very difficult time.

ANOTHER GREAT DAY IN THE LORD!

Thank God for another day and a good night of rest. Karen and I have really enjoyed visiting with members and friends the last couple days and we are looking forward to visiting more today.

We really appreciate those who have come by bringing Christmas gifts. Sister Mildred Stacy came by Monday and gave us a card with an offering. Brother Stanley and Sister Judy Reynolds gave us a card with an offering yesterday morning. Sister Peggy Heath came by with some Christmas gifts and an offering this morning. The people have been so good to us. We love you and thank you for all the kind expressions of love.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for another day and for YOU and all YOU are. YOU are so great and awesome! Use me today for Your glory and may I remember to give You the praise for all the good that is accomplished today. For what is not glorifying to You, please forgive me and cover me with your Son's blood. Let me show godly kindness and love to those I meet today. Open the door for me to share Your Son with some lost person and let my heart be attentive to the moving of the Holy Spirit as I meet persons throughout the day. I pray for added grace to do Your work today. You are worthy of all praise and I praise You! I ask that You give the leaders in our nation, on all levels, the wisdom to guide the affairs of their respective offices in a way that pleases You. I ask that You give greater anointing and added grace to the leaders in churches that proclaim the genuine gospel of Jesus Christ. I ask that You bless the countries of Ugandi and Sudan as they struggle to just have the bare needs to survive. Please give added grace and anointing to the church leaders in those countries and the many other nations who need so much. Help us to be good stewards in our giving and let us see what YOU would have us be doing with Your money that you have given to us to manage. O THANK GOD THAT I AM A CHILD OF THE KING OF KINGS! Let me never take this for granted. I ask that You, O Lord God, multiply Your grace among the members and friends of the church here at Huntingdon. Help us reach out to others and be witnesses unto you. Let us loose ourselves in Your vision and Your mission. In the wonderful, powerful, holy name that is above every name, Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord. AMEN!

VISITS TODAY

Karen and I visited with Stanley and Judy Reynolds today. Stanley is the Media Coordinator for the church. He makes VHS films of services and events and makes DVD's to give to people. He is working on a DVD to give to people that present the gospel message. I have completed three sittings of this and will take the VHS to him later this week or next week. Stanley is a paraplegic but does not let that stop him from working for the Lord. His testimony is powerful and he says, "if God does not heal me here the first one I will walk to again is Jesus." Judy is the Building Decorations Coordinator. She has done a tremendous job of decorating throughout the past seasons of fall, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Stanley's mother is a chater member of the church here. She lives in St. Louis in a Nursing Home Facility. We had a good season of prayer for Stanley and Judy and their families before we left.

We also visited with Lois Thomas in Camden, TN (about 25 mi. from Huntingdon). She told us that she has been very sick with a virus of some sort and could not come to the services Sunday. We had prayer with her and encouraged her.

Fanny Mae Hill

Then Karen and I visited with My Aunt in Dickson, which is about 45 mi. east from Camden. Dickson is where I attended high school and worked for several years before going out in the pastorate at age 25. My Aunt Fanny Mae Hill turned 90 this past September. We were also there for her birthday back in September. Aunt Mae, as I lovingly call her, is very special to me. She has lived an exemplary Christian life. She is now bedfast but still smiles and has not complained any time that I have been there. She smiles and says, "I'm so glad you came to see me, it seems so long ago that you were here."

She pastored at least three churches that I know of in her younger years. She pastored my home church (Burns, TN) where I grew up. She pastored Shady Grove near Franklin, TN and she pastored Portland, TN church. She pastored these churches in their infant stage and my Uncle Neely Hill, her husband, worked as a carpenter to help support them. They were true pioneers in my eyes. We prayed with her before we left and she prayed the sweetest prayer. I believe God has a special place for these warriors of faith.

Karen and I did some more Christmas shopping there in Dickson where there are several more stores to choose from. We finished some gift shopping for some more of our family. We are so excited about our children and grandchildren coming to visit with us this coming Friday night and Saturday morning. This will be the first time that all of them have been with us in our home at the same time in since we pastored in Nashville several years back. I pray that the Lord will give them traveling mercies. Each one of them will be driving anywhere from 180-150 miles - except Jason, of course he still lives with us.

CONDITIONS OF PRAYER

Continuing with the thought of prayer here is an excerpt from Charles Finney's series on Conditions of prayer.

"For example, there are some who pray as a matter of cold duty--only because they must, and not because they feel their need of some specific blessing. Hence their prayer is nothing but a form. Their heart is not set upon any particular object. They only care to do what they call a duty; they do not care with anxious heart for any object they may specify in their prayers. Hence the thing they really care for, is not the thing they pray for. In words they pray for this thing; in heart for quite another thing. And the evidence of this is in the fact that they never look after the thing they pray for in words. If they prayed in heart for any thing, they would certainly look to see whether the blessing asked for is given. . . .

Nothing can be more important than that we should thoroughly understand the conditions of prevailing prayer. If we fail thus to understand them, we shall very probably fail to fulfill them, and of course fail to offer prevailing prayer. Alas, how ruinous a failure must this be to any soul!

There are those, I am aware, who do not expect to influence God by their prayers; they expect to produce effects upon themselves only. They hope by means of prayer to bring themselves to a better state of mind, and this is all they expect to gain by means of prayer. . ."

VOLUNTEER CHAPLAINS MEETING

Chaplain Jerry Leggett, Pastoral Care Director for Huntingdon and Union City Baptist Health Care, directed the meeting today. We had a great breakfast provided by the hospital kitchen staff. We discussed the various nuances of the Chaplaincy work. Brother Leggett thanked each one of the volunteers and presented each one with a desk notepad case. The meeting went well. It was a good time of fellowship, laughter and ministerial camaradarie. One of the volunteers, Brother James Humphreys said, "we all have one thing in common - the One who died on the cross." Everyone agreed. Those attending were, Rufus Chandler, (Pastor, Missionary Baptist Church), James Humphreys (Retired Southern Baptist Pastor), Jerry Leggett (Chaplain Jerry Leggett, Baptist Health Care Services), Dr. Paul Mullikin, President (Pastor, First United Methodist), Roger Patton (Pastor, First Presbyterian Church), Lynn Stapleton, Vice President, (Pastor, Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church), Milton Gordon, Records Treasurer, (Pastor, Church of God of Prophecy, Huntingdon), we had prayer for Jimmy Furr the Secretary of HMA who had a pacemaker implanted this past week. Jimmy is the Missions Director of the West Tennessee Southern Baptist Association. We thank God that fellow ministers can work together for the advancement of the kingdom of God and the spread of the gospel.

TODAY

Karen and I plan to visit some more today. I have a Volunteer Chaplains meeting at 8 am at the Baptist Hospital and need to get ready. We are thankful to be here and to minister to those we meet each day.

God bless and until next time. . . .

PRAYER AND SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Heavenly father, thank you for another day to praise and worship you. Help me to be more thankful. Thank You for the peace that abounds in You and is given to us and for the grace that You bestow each day. Make me more like your Son and help me share the gospel message whereever I go. Help me to . . ." let the peace of God rule in [my] heart, to the which also [I] am called in one body; and [to] be thankful" (Col. 3:15). May those who I meet today be ministered to by You through me. Give me more of your grace and kindness. Show me Your way for me today and help me walk in it. Touch my body today. I feel weak and sickly with a headache and still have this nagging little cough. Heal me I ask. Make me stronger for Your work and give me stamina I pray. In the wonderful, powerful, holy name above every name, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Thank You Heavenly Father! AMEN!

VISITS

After getting several Christmas cards signed, addressed, stamped and mailed at the Post Office, Sister Karen and I did some visiting earlier today. Several were not present in the Christmas Service yesterday and we wanted to see them and wish them a very Merry Christmas. Family banquets and other schedules seem to be overly numerous this time of the year. We went by Sister Jennie Sanders (homebound) and she was not home. She is moving to an apartment in town where she will be better cared for. We left her a note and a Christmas gift. We then went by Huntingdon Carpet Shope, Manuel Crossno's carpet shop, and wished him and his family Merry Christmas and gave them a Christmas gift. We went by the office where Sharon Davidson works and wished her family a Merry Christmas and gave her family a Christmas gift.

Tomorrow we plan to visit more and to, hopefully, see the rest of the members and friends to wish them Merry Christmas. We love the people here and pray for them that God will bless them and give them the greatest Christmas ever.

PRAYER

With the New Year almost upon us, what better time to respond to the call to prayer. . .Prayerlessness is the downfall of many.

Charles Finney was a revivalist in his time and preached and wrote on revival and prayer much. Here is an exerpt from one of his sermons.

"So much is said in the Scriptures about God's answering, while so much is prayed for that is not answered, that it is a sore trial to many minds. It was to myself a stumbling-block; for some time, I could not understand at first how it could be that such unqualified assertions, as those which are made by Matthew, were consistent with the fact that so much prayer remained unanswered. My mistake was twofold. . . ."

"Sometimes persons pray, when really in their hearts they interpose conditions. They would have God humble them, if he could do it without disgracing them, or destroying their property. They would have God sanctify them, if it can be done without breaking off their self-indulgences. Things, however, cannot be granted without the removal of obstacles; and to pray acceptably, we must be willing to part with a right hand or to put out a right eye, if these things stand in the way of God's granting our request. . ."

PRAYER AND SCRIPTURES

Thank you Lord for another day and for YOU and all YOU are. It seems that in the busy Christmas Season, I get caught up in doing things and often forget to just take the time to bless you. Please forgive me of this, the sins and failures in my life. I think of what the Psalmist said in so many places, " Bless the Lord." I often wonder Lord how the Psalmist could say "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth" (34:1). With my mind being distracted so much, I ask that you help me praise you more. I cry out to you today to help me "Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name" (103:1). I feel like such a weak worshipper when I read these Psalms and ask that you help me "worship the Father in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23). Please make me a better witness for you and help me to be bolder yet more caring in my witnessing. I accept your promise that "[I] shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon [me]: and [I] shall be witness unto [You]. . .unto the uttermost part of the earth. I feel very weak, unnecessary and useless at times but know that in YOU, Lord Jesus I am strong. As the song says, "I . . .I . . . .I . . .'m desperate for YOU." I trust YOU Lord and give you all the PRAISE, HONOR AND GLORY! In the wonderful, powerful, holy name above every name, Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.

SUNDAY EVENING SERVICE

During service tonight we sang Christmas carols. We sang, "Joy To The World," "Away In a Manger," "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem," and "Go Tell It On The Mountain." The Lord blessed. I preached from Isaiah 7:14. THANK GOD for the birth of the precious Lamb of God! We were challenged to worship Christ more than ever and to remember the "greatest sign ever given." Luke tells much about the birth of Jesus and the ones involved. Simeon, an older priest in the temple, was promised by the Holy Ghost that he would see "the salvation of Israel before he died." He blessed the Lord as he held the Christ Child in his arms. Luke 2:28-32 says, "Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel." Anna, a priestess, who served in the temple since her husband died when she was young also came in and "gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem" (Luke 2:38). Thank God for His Son.

After service we had refreshments and enjoyed fellowship in the basement.

FAMILY BANQUET

After the Christmas Candlelight service, which several told us they enjoyed, Deacon J. E. Moore invited us to their Family Christmas Banquet. We enjoyed being there and met several of Brother Moore's family. He told me that only about half of his family was there. There were about 50 there at the First Bank meeting hall. The food was great and the fellowship was great.

Thanks Brother Moore and all your family for the hospitality and for caring and sharing.

CHRISTMAS CANDLELIGHT SERVICE

It was a very special service today as we celebrated the birth of our Savior. The atmosphere was charged with a quiet sacredness as poems and writings of the Christmas season were given. The songs reminded us of His birth and of the reason for this speacial season. Cathy Coleman and her granddaughter, Mariah, gave a special presentation of Santa Claus's gifts and how that Santa honored the Baby Jesus. Brother James Moore read a brief history of the song, "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day," by Longfellow and Jason sang the song which is filled with much truth since many people don't see "good will and peace on earth, " but we know where the real peace is - in our hearts and minds. Sister Karen read the "Soldiers Night Before Christmas." We had a special candle lighting time to remember the soldiers in Iraq, other parts of the world and all those who have died for the freedom of our country throughout the years. Sister Donna Crossno read the "W of Christmas." The W was a special time when a child mistakenly held the M of Christmas unside down in a program and it spelled CHRISTWAS LOVE. The service ended with a challenge for each one to remember those who don't have the kind of Christmas that many have. We are so thankful for all those who helped in the program. Sister Josie and Siste Lori did great on the bulletins, getting them ready. Thanks to Brother Leon for bringing the covering for our windows and for helping with this.

It was so good to see Brother Jimmy and Sister Virginia Davis and his mother, Willodene, in service again. They have become regulars in our service over the past couple months. We were glad to see Walter Jones back with us today. It was good to see Lori Warmon with us again today. Also, we welcomed Dr. Chuck Burks and his wife today. Rev. Burks is a minister of the gospel. We welcome them any time and want them to feel free to minister in our church.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR WHO HE IS, ALL HE HAS DONE, AND ALL THAT HE IS GOING TO DO!

SHARING AND LOVING

Sister Susise (Women's Ministry Leader) and Sister Josie came by at 12:15 pm today to get Karen to go buy Christmas groceries and toys for a needy family. Sister Karen and I are going to deliver these items to this family, Rev. Chuck Burks family, in a while.

I am finishing the Candlelight Christmas Program insert for the bulletin tomorrow. Karen and I are going to Jackson this evening to do some shopping and have a meal with some of our friends here at the church (Don and Kathy). Karen expressed excitement about the Candlelight Service tomorrow. She has been working diligently to get the poems and readings ready along with the song.

We want it to be a special day for the people and for worshipping our Savior who was born Immaculate and Incarnate.

O HOLY NIGHT! O NIGHT DIVINE! O NIGHT! O NIGHT DIVINE! WHEN CHRIST WAS BORN!

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Luke 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I come to you with praise and worship. How great You are! Use me Lord today, I pray. Make me stronger in You and Your Word. Use me as an instrument in Your hands. Forgive me of failures and sins and lead me in paths of righteousness. Make me a more powerful witness for you and give me understanding and compassion when I meet the lost, the hurting, the downcast, the depressed, the lonely, the abused, the angry, the bitter, the outcast - any who need a touch from the Master - may I be one YOU can use to touch them and lead them to YOU, O LORD. Show me YOUR WAY for me today and help me follow. AMEN! and AMEN!

GUILT

I believe the following is needed, especially this time of the year when so many seem to be depressed and discouraged. So, I am publishing this again.

Pastors, Ministers, Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Marriage Therapists, Mental Health Providers, Chaplains and Psychiatrists and any others may counsel but God is the healer, resolver, deliverer, mender, comforter, provider, and stabilizer. This is one of the first things I tell a person when they come to me for counseling, is that we (the counselee and myself the counselor) are trusting God in the needs they have. There is only one Savior and Lord.

Often persons "beat themselves up" over and over again when God has forgiven them and they stand justified in His sight through faith in Christ and His shed blood. "Self-guilt" and "self-condemation" are destructive. That type of guilt is a tool of the enemy and a lack of understanding of being forgiven completely of sin in their lives. There is another type of guilt or "healthy guilt" or conviction. Often persons are depressed, sad, downcast, etc. because there is conviction of sin and it is not confessed and repented of. No amount of tranquilizers will bring the needed healing and stabilizing that are needed to find peace; only confessing, repenting and serving God to the best of our ability will resolve that type of depression. PHYSICAL

Well it was a typical doctor's visit - waiting an hour before seeing the doctor and then another two hours for the visit, checking, etc. The physical went well. BP 120/75 (with continued BP meds), ears good, nose okay, throat okay, eyes okay, chest okay, back okay, other parts okay, urinalysis okay, all seems to be okay at this time except overweight - need to loose about 30 lbs. Not sure I can do that, especially this time of the year.

Karen has gotten several poems and readings together this morning and we are continuing to plan the Candlelight Service to worship and commemorate the birth of our Savior. I am working with Karen to get an outline together for Sister Josie to set up the bulletin and get it copied.

Last night I changed the CD player in my computer but it still does not work - the sound that is. It shows that it is playing but the sound is mute. Other sounds will play and I can play songs, etc. from the Internet but no sound plays from a CD on my computer. I guess I'll need to get someone who knows more about what to do.

I mailed some Christmas cards yesterday and will give the rest out Sunday and mail the ones who may not be there Sunday. We will also be giving our little gift to each one Sunday.

The church decided not to have services on Christmas, since most want to be with their families. I have encouraged them and will encourage them again to remember to worship the Lord and have family prayer and devotion on that day.

LATE NIGHT - EARLY MORNING - EITHER WAY WORKS

Well it is late or early - whichever way will work at this time of the night. It is time to get some rest. I have a doctor's appointment in the morning for a physical. Thank God it has been over 15 years, 4 major surgeries, several minor surgical procedures and much praise and thanks to God since I was first diagnosed with cancer. No one knows for sure how long they will be on this earth. Every breath is a gift from God. The experiences of pain, suffering, anxiety, fear and doubt that have been in my life have been stepping stones for God to use so that I may minister to others.

Pastors, Ministers, Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Marriage Therapists, Mental Health Providers, Chaplains and Psychiatrists and any others may counsel but God is the healer, resolver, deliverer, mender, comforter, provider, stabilizer, . TODAY

Karen and I traveled some today. We went to Lexington (TN that is) and shopped for Christmas for the members and attenders and some last minute family shopping. We try not to get into the "commercialism" of Christmas but we do enjoy buying small gifts to show our love to the congreation and to family. We also got some needed items for the Candlelight Christmas service Sunday, which will begin at 10 am. Karen has been calling and telling folks that weren't in church Wed. evening about the service beginning at 10 am. We average missing one or two Sunday Schools a year but usually we have Sunday School. This Candlelight Service will include everyone from the youngest to the oldest. Karen is working on a nativity scene with some of the little ones and I am getting songs and reading together for the service. Anyone who wants to read or sing will be involved in the service. We want to worship our Savior and celebrate His birth. He is truly the reason for the season.

Studies in the doctoral program have to be on hold for the next several days as I am involved in pastoral and family ministry. Karen and I will be visiting member and friends Monday-Thursday of next week. Then our four children and four grandchildren are to be with us Friday night and half a day Saturday. Then we are traveling to Karen's family for Christmas Eve and to My family for Christmas day. As the song says, "Its the most wonderful time of the year. . ." and our Savior, Family and Friends are what makes it so wonderful.

We love each one. . . .

LAST NIGHT'S MEETING AND TODAY

Last night was a very successful business meeting. The reports were good and the "unity of spirit and effort" were great. Siste Rita Moore did excellent work in doing the minutes and the treasury report. The leaders gave good reports. The church is now down from $45,000.00 to $10,202.77 in paying off the new church property of 7.6 acres. We are thankful for the progress here and how the people are working together. We are thankful for the mission giving to Ugandi and Sudan of over $800.00. I apologize for earlier inadvertently listing Ethiopia as our harvest partner. The church also sent over $450.00 to the State Office to be sent to the relief effort in the gulf states for Hurricane Katrina. The dates and times of scheduled evening services were discussed. The motion was made and seconded to continue Sunday evening services as scheduled and after some discussion the motion was passed to have continued services on Sunday evening and to have one Wednesday evening Fellowship time and add-a-dish meal on the second Wedneday evening of each month. This is to be on a trial basis until the end of January 2006 and will be opened for discussion again. I will use these open Wednesday evenings for outreach and possible prayer services in new homes and/or nursing homes and jail meetings. The church felt it best to do this since outreach is very vital and attendance is substantially down on Wednesday evenings. Also heating fuel prices have skyrocketed and this will give some relief in that area. For those who want a Wednesday night meeting, it is strongly suggested and recommended that prayer meetings in homes be scheduled and considered or family prayer in each one's own home be implemented.

After the business meeting several stayed to cover the windows with plastic that Brother Leon provided from his shop. Brother Paul Rivera (Youth Director) and Sister Josie Rivera (Bulletin Secretary) came over last night after we finished with the church. We discussed some youth activities and plans. Karen had thrown some ribs in the oven to bar-b-cue and Paul and Josie stayed with us to enjoy eating with us. We had a good time of fellowship. Brother Paul has the youth at heart and loves them. We are praying for growth in our youth. Sister Josie has recently taken the bulletin responsibility with me as her assistant. Thanks to these two for their diligent volunteer work for the Lord and the church.

Today, Karen and I will be doing some work on the Christmas Candlelight Service for Sunday - getting readings, poems, candles and songs together. Others are also getting readings, poems, etc. together. Jason is supposed to sing, "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Morning." The Candlelight Service will begin at 10:00 am (no Sunday School) and continue until completed. There will be congregational singing and songs on tape and CD interspersed with readings, poems, etc. We anticipate a great time of worship and celebration of our Savior's birth. A short message is planned and we certainly want the Holy Ghost to have his time and way.

Karen and I will be visiting some today and will also be shopping for gifts for the children and adults at the church. This is always a challenge for me each year as I do not like to give tradtional pastoral gifts like pens and/or planners with the church name on them. Anyway, it will be a gift of love from Sister Karen and I.

Until next time. . . .

TODAY

I have been working on reports and business items for our quarterly business meeting today. After the conference tonight, for those who will stay and help we will be getting the building ready for the Christmas Candlelight Service. The windows will be covered completely and some other things will be done. I have to get music, readings and poems together with the help of some of the leaders and Karen.

I am also continuing in the doctoral studies - Understanding Typology. I'll be glad when I get through the basic studies in this degree program so that I can get to the Biblical Counseling Courses.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Hebrews 5:8 "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered. . ." To some this passage may sound as if Jesus was disobedient in some way. That is not the jest of this passage. To understand this better we put the word submission where obedience is and then we see that Jesus submitted to the ridicule, pain, rejection, false accusations and shame of the cross and of those who tried him in Pilate's Hall. In our life as a Christians we find ourselves in situations that often bring ridicule, rejection and accusations that are not true. If we follow the example of our Lord there will be victory just as he was victorious over all the sufferings he went through. We can "count it all joy" and move on to the next glorious touch in our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit and the effectual working of the Master - who bled and died for us on the Cross and is alive for ever more. GLORY TO HIM!

VISITS

Karen and I visited with Sister Bonnie Curtis (Crossno) at the rehabilitation facility today. We had a warm visit. We also visited with Mrs. Parker an elderly African-American lady who is a deceased Baptist Pastor's wife. Sister Bonnie was visiting with her and so we just visited with both of them in the same room. They are good friends. We had a great time of visit and a glorious time of prayer. Sister Parker really prayed a zealous prayer. We gave each of them a wall calendar and pocket calender for 2006. We really enjoyed the visit and they both said, "come back real soon." It is difficult to leave these folks since they mostly sit all day, seemingly, waiting for someone to come by and visit or for that final visit that calls them to that long home. They are precious with their gray or white hair and gentle voices. More of our church people should visit these, often forgotten, warriors who have no other place to go while left on this earth.

We also visited Mrs. Borlean there at the rehab center. She was very appreciative and told us that she used to come to our church but was unable to get a ride for some time and started attending another church. We had a good season of prayer with her as well. She begged us to come again real soon. A person could spend every day all day ministering to these precious ones that have labored for many years and now are unable to go - but they still pray - believe me.

Karen continues to do crocheting for Christmas presents for our daughters. We also went to Lowes in Paris and Freds to get some gifts for some of our family members. I started signing and addressing Christmas Cards. It seems there is one more that I need to do and I thought of another one as I am writing this. It is late and we need to get some rest.

TODAY - SCRIPTURE - HELPING - STUDY

Scripture for today Hebrews 10:1 "For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect." Thank God for the perfect sacrifice that Jesus gave on the cross that we could be perfectly (completely) forgiven, perfectly justified and perfectly saved.

Today I helped Karen with her resume and an application. She is continuing to look for a teaching position. We have been here at Huntingdon for 17 months and nothing has been offered in a 40 mile radius. We are praying that God will open the way for her and continued provision. He has never failed us. He knows our needs perfectly.

I am continuing in the Doctor of Ministry Studies. The area is Understanding Typology in Biblical Hermeneutics.

HAS WAL-MART RECONSIDERED?

Since our membership and attendees live in a 25-30 miles radius, Sister Karen and I visit some of the stores in that area. We were in Wal-Mart in Camden, TN last Sunday evening and I gingerly said, "Merry Christmas" to one of the employees. Then I asked him about the policy on using the word Christmas. He said, "well we are just trying to follow orders and he said, 'Happy Holidays'." This past Saturday, Karen were watching a TV commercial and, low and behold, the commercial had "Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays" in large letters and at the bottom there was Wal-Mart in big letters. Has Wal-Mart reconsidered or are they playing the "locale" game - that is, telling their managers to use their discretion as to what they do according to their location?

Anyway, I was in Wal-Mart early this morning getting some things (sorry to those who are boycotting Wal-Mart, its about the only place here to shop with any diversity of selections). I said, "Merry Christmas" to one of the employees and he responded back "Merry Christmas thats what its all about." Then as I checked out, the clerk very openly began to talk about Jesus and that He is the reason we celebrate. It was a relief to me but I am still not sure about the policy from the powers that be over the Wal-Mart stores.

Today, Sister Karen and I traveled to another area to visit and while there we went in to Fred's, Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree (a good place to buy small gifts for children and adults too) to do some CHRISTmas shopping. Fred's and Dollar Tree has a selection of items that relate to Christmas and there seems to be no problem with using the word Christmas. Surprisingly at the Wal-Mart in Paris, TN (there are 6 in about a 35 mile radius of our home) we heard Christmas music (not just secular but Christian). This is a bit confusing to me and I'm wondering if anyone knows any more about this. If you do, please email me or hit the comment link below and inform me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

TODAY'S TRAVELS

Today Sister Karen and I visited some. I visited with Virginia Davis at her daycare just up the street around 9:30 am. She requested prayer for her mother-in-law, Willodene Davis , who has been sick with this "crud" that is going around. She is also diabetic and has some heart problems. I told her we missed her and the family. She said they were getting ready to come but sickness hindered them. We will be praying for them.

Karen and I then went to the Hollow Rock, Bruceton and Buena Vista area to visit. In Bruceton, at the Grace's, we saw Krystal and Brandon. Their mother, Joyce and their brother Lee, had gone to take their van to get some work done on it where Mike, their father works in Paris. We encouraged Krystal and Brandon and let them know we really missed them in church the past several weeks. They were both friendly and receptive. Both are teens in high school.

Then we went and visited Jeff and April Davis, and their three children. We had a short but friendly visit. April teaches high school and had to leave in a while to go to a baskeball game. Jeff works at Dupont in New Johnsonville and had just gotten in from work. We let them know that we really have enjoyed them visiting our services and hope they can come again real soon. They apologized for not asking us to stay longer but we assured them we understood since Karen has taught school and understands when a teacher has to be there. April then told us that she is the Cheer Leader sponsor. Karen assured her that she understood since our daughter Sarah was a Cheer Leader for a couple years. As we left they asked us to come again.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 11, 2005

I was up at 5 am and did some last minute studying for today's message "Newness in Christ" using 2 Cor. 4:16 as a text. At about 7:30, I asked Karen if she is feeling well enough to have Children's church today and she said, "I am going to try." I finished getting ready and went over to the church to check the building at 8:30 am. The heat was not on and it was cold. Usually the ones who clean turn it on low the night before, so I turned it on. We have a good heating system and by 9:45 it was comfortable. There were several out today with sickness. Sister Donna Crossno called and could hardly speak. She has fever and nausea. We requested prayer for her, the Davises, Delilah Mummel, Gracie and Celinas and several others. The worship was great and in the message we were challenged to not let fear control us but to let God renew us day by day.

Sister Karen and the children, 7 of them, went down to the basement for Children's Church. It was a special treat for Karen to have our youngest grandchild, Aviana, in her service. Karen told me later, they were restless and she did not feel very strong yet so they came up early while I was preaching. We are thankful for our children. These were there today, Brooks, James, Shirley, Jamie, Megan, Jesse, & Aviana. Karen has ministered to at least 15 children in the past couple months in Children Church. The others are Mariah, Savannah, Zachery, Cody, Jonah, Jordan, Tristen, Shirley, James and Celinas. We are very thankful for our children and want them to be ministered to and want others to come to our church.

Last night the service was good but several were out. We had a good time in the Lord. The message, "God Can Do It," was from Luke 1:37 . . ."with God nothing shall be impossible." We were challenged to be submissive to God and let Him do His work in us and through us. His promises are "yea and amen!"

PRAYER FOR TODAY

First, I thank You Heavenly Father and worship You. HOW GREAT THOU ART! Your greatness is far above anthing I could say, imagine or think. Glory, honor and praises to You. Secondly, I confess my failures and sins. Forgive me I pray. Forgive me of hidden sins. Forgive me of the lack of involvement in reaching out to others. Forgive me of doubt. Forgive me of the lack of fervent service and prayer. Next, I pray for the leaders in our nation and the nations around the world. I ask that the soldiers in Iraq and around the world will be protected and that this war in Iraq will accomplish what it is supposed to accomplish. I ask for strength and guidance for the leaders in the church in all areas and levels. Please give added grace to those who are serving under severe and difficult circumstances in nations where they are not wanted and are abused and persecuted. Bless all the nations that our churches sponsor as Harvest partners. Ethiopia is one of ours and I pray for this nation that is in dire need of even the basic physical needs. Perform miracles in provision for these nations, I pray. Now, I pray that You will be with us today in our church meetings. Give me grace to shepherd your people. May Your presence be with us as You know our need. We are very needy and most of all we need YOU O LORD GOD! In the Wonderful, Powerful, Holy Name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord! AMEN!

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2005

Sister Karen and I had been offered a "speacial treat" when we were at Deacon and Sister Moore's on Thursday night. They came over at 9:00 am this morning and brought country ham. Karen fixed everything else for brunch and Brother Moore cooked the ham. Around 10 am, we ate with them, and Sarah and family. The country ham was great. Brother Moore told us the secret of cooking country ham. He said, "just brown it real quick on each side for a few minutes, otherwise, if you cook it too long it will get tough." It was tender and very good. We thank the Moores and all the people here for being so good to us.

The Servant Evangelism Project scheduled from 12:30-3:00 pm was cancelled due to sickness and cold weather. The temperature has been 20-25 degrees below the normal for this time of the year. We hope to reschedule the Windshield Washing act of kindness sometime in the future. We have discussed a more appropriate project for this time of the year and will be working towards doing that sometime soon.

Bethel Renaissaince Choir was great last night. The newly renovated building was quaint and very nice. It is a church building that is over 100 years old (1870's). The Christmas songs were awesome. The people responded well as the choir was "clapped" back for an encore. I was able to get the whole musical on tape. Jason did well on his solo considering that he had strepp throat only a few days ago. We are "proud" of Jason and pray that he will do well in the music teaching field. We were happy that Sarah, Chris and little Aviana got to be with us Friday night, all day yesterday, last night and are to be with us in the service tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by. . . .until next time. . . .

VISITS

I called Sister Donna Crossno around 9:30 am this morning to see how she is feeling. She missed work and church Wedn. She told me that she is better but does not know if she will be able to make it to the Servant Evangelism outreach project tomorrow. I suggested that we could reschedule it or that I may go out and try to wash some windshields on my own. I encouraged her to stay in since she is hoarse and sounds like she is in a "barrel." She told me that Delilah is better. I thanked her for praying for Karen and told her that Karen is better.

At 10:00 am I began studying another section in the Biblical Hermeneutics course of the Doctorate program. This study is challenging along with the other responsibilities that I have as Pastor.

Around 12:15 pm, I called some of the newest visitors to try to set a time to visit in their home. Josh Lawton, the Davis's son-in-law, answered at his home but was leaving for work. He works for the railroad. He said he would be back Monday and we could come by then. I called the Davis's other child, Jeff, and got a voice machine. I left a message letting them know who I was and asked when Karen and I could come and visit. Karen and I then left to visit some of the homebound members.

Sister Karen and I just go back (2:25 pm) from visiting Sister Jennie Sanders and Sister Lilly Grooms. Sister Jennie is moving into an apartment in town and will be much closer to folks who can help her. She is very exited but will miss her old homeplace where she lived over 60 years. She said, "I just felt like I needed to move because this house is very old and the kitchen floor is sinking." We are very happy for Sister Jennie. We also met her two sons and their wives while we were there and her grandson, Doug. They were visiting with her when we got there. She will be just about a mile from us and we can check on her very easy.

Sister Lilly continues to have shortness of breath and can't get around very well. She wanted us to tell the church hello for her and said, "I want to come back sometime and hope I can." She wanted to tell everyone at the church that she loves them. Her 4 year old grandson, Jacob, was there and we always enjoy being with him and seeing him play.

We had a good season of prayer with both before we headed back home.

We had lunch at Sonic (2 pm) and brought Jason a chicken wrap combo home. He is going to Bethel at 3 pm to practice for the Christmas musicals scheduled tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. Karen and I, Sarah (my youngest daughter) and Chris will be going tomorrow night.

UNITY OF THE BIBLE

Often we hear comments like, "I just can't read the Old Testament to understand it." Or, "I read the New Testament and don't see any need to really read much of the Old Testament." Granted, there are some difficult passages, especially in the Prophetical writings, to understand and there are some difficult passages in the New Testament to understand as well. Yet we understand that it has been said and shown that "the New Testament is contained in the Old and the Old Testament is revealed in the New." Reading the Bible as a unit is critical for a better and continued understanding of the Bible.

There are some 300 places in the New Testament that refers to an Old Testament passage or passage combination and starts with "It is written" (Matthew 21:13) or "As it is Written" (Mark 1:2) or a similar phrase. There are some 4000 (4 thousand) allusions to a passage, part of a passage, compilation of passages or combination of passages of the Old Testament in the New Testament (borrowed, Lecture by David Turner, Trinity Theological Seminary). There are passages in the Old Testament that predict the coming of Messiah (Read Isaiah 53), where He will be born (Micah 5:2), the fulfillment in the New Testament (John 7:42), how He will come into this world (Isaiah 7:14) and the fulfillment (Matthew 1:22-23).

So as we read the Bible we can be more awakened to understand that when we see something in the New Testament that refers back to the Old, the unity of the Bible becomes more obvious. Also, when we read something in the Old Testament that predicts a future event, often the fulfillment is contained in the New. There are prophecies in both that have not been fulfilled but that is another subject. As the Apostle Paul declares "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope" (Romans 15:4). Peter and Paul and the early New Testament Christians read the Old Testament (as it was then) and interpreted it. Thank God for the Old Testament and the New Testament and the Unity of the Bible.

Thanks for stopping by . . .until next time.

AFTERNOON & EVENING THURSDAY 12/08

Sister Karen and I visited some this afternoon. We had a good visit with James and Rita Moore. James is Sunday School Superintendent and Rita is the church Clerk and Treasurer. These two leaders are very vital to the church here at Huntingdon. We appreciate their diligent and faithful work for the Lord. We also visited J. E. and Marie Moore (James's mom and dad). J. E. is a Deacon and he and Sister Moore are faithful members of the church. Brother J. E. and James have given many hours and the use of their equipment to the development of the new church property. The property site is now leveled and landscaped in the front approximate 4 acres and is ready for building. The back acreage will be landscaped in the future. We are currently in the process of paying the property off and owe about 12,000.00 on this 7.6 acre beautiful site. We are seeking God for His direction in this process. Brother J. E. and I have been meeting at the property on Sunday mornings at around 9:30 am to pray before church. Also remember Sister Marie. She has requested prayer that she will be able to be back in church. She has diabetes and her sugar level has been very high recently.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE VERSE

Pslams 56:3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. This was a time when David wound up in the hands of the Philistines. They were the arch enemy of Isreal. David was being subject to Saul but Saul was jealous and was after David's life too. Sometimes we feel afraid because when we are doing our best it seems that there are those that would have us defeated and/or destroyed. Our trust should be as David's - what time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. It is natural human emotion to be afraid sometimes.

Two men were walking through some wooded area when a grizzly bear came upon them. One of the men said, "lets stand real still and see if the bear will just leave." The other said, "I'll run and you stand still and see if he leaves." This is humorous, but often thats how we feel when we are afraid - we feel like running. David didn't say, "lets run," he said "what time I am afraid, I will trust in thee." God help us to trust in thee in all circumstances, in all tests, in all battles, in all trials. . . .at all times.

EARLY MORNING DEVOTION & PRAYER

It is quiet this early morning hour. Karen and Jason are still resting. Our three dogs (Gabriel a Golden Retriever, Samson, a Maltese and Bandit, a Fiest mix) are all resting quietly outside the back door. It is colder (24 deg.) than normal on this early December day of the month but not as cold as yesterday (19). I want to offer this prayer this morning.

Heavenly Father, I come to you through your son Jesus and thank You for You and all that You are. I worship You, the mighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and many others in the Scripture. How awesome You are. Mere words cannot describe You and You are too much for my finite state. I confess that I have failed You in many ways. Sometimes I doubt. Sometimes I am too busy with my own agenda. Sometimes I covet. Sometimes I have negative and unwholesome thoughts. Forgive me of these sins and hidden sins in my life that I don't see. Keep me from presumptious sins. Forgive me of the weights that keep me from running the race as I should and help me lay them down at your feet. Weights of anxiety, fear, past failures and successess. I pray that you forgive me of these things and not let Satan exploit me in any of these things. I thank You Holy Spirit for teaching me, guiding me, leading me and I pray that today Your power will flow through me for your glory and honor. I pray for the leaders in the church, nation, state and local leaders. Be with each of them and help them make the decisions that will please you. I ask that You bless the members and friends here at Huntingdon. Give anointing and guidance to the leaders of the church here. Strengthen each one that is discouraged. Heal those that are sick in the most Holy, Righteous, Powerful Name of Jesus Christ. I give You Praise, Worship, I laud You, I Magnify You, I Bless Your Holy Name. Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy. . . . . . . . . . . . .

UPCOMING EVENTS

SERVANT EVANGELISM PROJECT: Saturday, December 10, 12:30-3:00 pm. We will meet for prayer and debriefing between 12:30-12:45. We will go do the project from 1:00 to 2:30 and will come back to discuss the project and have pizza at 2:30. Those who Volunteer will be joining in the Windshield Washing Project at Fred's Parking Lot. This will be a simple act of kindness to show God's love in a practical way. We will offer the service and tell them it is free, no strings attached, and will give them a card showing who we are and where the church is. Our prayers are that the person will be touched by the Holy Spirit and will eventually come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. WE PRAY THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL GO BEFORE US AND MOVE ON THOSE WE OFFER THIS SIMPLE ACT OF KINDNESS TO.

CHRISTMAS CANDLELIGHT SERVICE: Sunday December 18, 11:00 am. This will be a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior and Lord through personal commitment and dedication. There will be Christmas carols interspersed with poems, testimonies, and readings all in the spirit of celebrating the incarnate birth of Jesus Christ.

We are exited about the great things God is doing here at the Huntingdon church and want to share the love of Jesus with everyone. MAY HE BE GLORIFIED!

VISITATION

Sister Karen and I visited with Mrs. Willodene Davis today. She is not feeling well so we had a brief prayer with her at her door and left to come back and visit later. She may have the same virus type sickness that is making the rounds during this time of the year. Remember her in prayer. We visited with Mr. Bill Hall who is feeling much better but continues to have voice problems. He is supposed to see an ENT Specialist later this week. Remember these in prayer.

"Jesus healed them all, Jesus healed many. . ." Luke 4:40 says, "Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them." So says the scripture in several places. We serve a healing Jesus. O come Lord Jesus and heal us. . . . .let your healing virtue flow throughout your body. Lord I believe, help my unbelief so that your power, virtue and grace will flow to these and heal these for the glory of God. AMEN!

TODAY AND PRAYER REQUESTS

It is great to be alive in the Lord today. The Psalmist declares, "this is the day that the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it." O what an AWESOME, MIGHTY, HOLY, UNCHANGEABLE, IMMUTABLE, GOD WE SERVE! HE IS WORTHY OF ALL OUR PRAISE! My prayer today is that God will be glorified in all I do today. I pray that he will cleanse me of all failures, sins, hidden sins and weights that would hinder me from serving Him as I should. As the Psalmist prayed, so I pray today with desire for the flow of his Grace, "let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord my strength and my redeemer." I pray for an understanding and loving spirit as I meet each person today - in my home and in the community. I pray for grace and strength to function in the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray for the leaders of our country, state, and local areas. I pray that God will bless President Bush and his family. I pray that the soldiers in Iraq will be protected and that God will bring this war to a place that will free the troups to come home and will secure the country of Iraq by reasonable, common sense people that will lead the country toward Godly principles. I pray for this nation that God will forgive us for the decisions we have made in areas such as abortion, homosexuality, pornography, lotteries and gambling. I pray that God will forgive me for not being more involved in my stance regarding these values. I ask that God will give me the strength to be a genuine Christian and love sinners, pray for those who despitefully use me and to forgive those who hurt and use me. I pray that God will charge me with a greater unction to proclaim the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ! AMEN!

TODAY: After a quiet time and meditation, I have continued this morning in doctoral studies. I completed the course and final exam last week of "Applied Research In Theology of Ministry" and now am in the course "Contemporary Biblical Hermeneutics." These courses and the DMin. program are very challenging and pertinent to today's ministry. I am studying in the DMin. Biblical Counseling Core, in Trinity Theological Seminary of Newburgh, IN. This is done online, by Video, by audio CD, textbooks, and some on-campus seminars.

VISIT: Later today or this week, I need to visit some of the visitors that have recently come to the church to visit. One family, Jimmy and Virginia Davis, have been four Sundays in a row. She owns and operates the Day Care just four houses up the street from the church. They really responded well to Brother Weakley's message Sunday. Thank you Jimmy and Virginia for coming and being a part of the positive atmosphere that we experienced Sunday. Jimmy Davis's mother, Willodene Davis, is one that needs to be visited along with the Davis's children and families. Also, Walter Jones, Uvonna Ross, Rex and Lori Warmon & Mr. Manus are other visitors that need to be visited and/or contacted. We have also missed the Grace family the past four weeks. Each of these need visiting and/or contacting sometime this week. Also we will visit some of the members today and the rest of the week.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Remember Sister Carolyn Loggains as she continues to recover from knee replacement. Pray for Sister Susie Reynolds who has reinjured her miniscus in her knee after having surgery back in the summer and may need surgery again. Pray for Sister Marie Moore who continues to have complications from diabetes. Pray for Sister Delilah Mummel who has a virus or the flu and has been very sick. Remember the homebound, Sister Jennie Sanders, Sister Bonnie Curtis, Sister Lennie May Crossno, and Sister Lilly Grooms. Pray for Bill Hall who is much better but continues to have voice problems and can only speak in a loud whisper. Continue to pray for Sister Gordon as she continues to have coughing and some pain in her chest - thankfully she is much better. Pray for Jason as he has final exams at Bethel College this week. Pray for REVIVAL to come to the church at Huntingdon and that each member and friend will be revived in the Lord and move out in the Great Commission. Remember to pray for the Servant Evangelistic project scheduled for Saturday from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. May we seek HIM with all our hearts, effectually and fervently. . . .

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day in the Lord and a restful night of peace in HIM.
