Willodene Davis

Karen and I went to visit with Sister Willodene Davis. We enjoyed a good time of fellowship and prayed with her. We felt God very present as we sought Him to give Sister Davis healing. Jimmie and Virginia came in and we visited with them as well. We are continuing to pray for her needs. We love and appreciate the folks here.

PRAYER REQUEST

Brother Jimmie Davis just called a few minutes ago requesting prayer for his mother, Sister Davis. She is having dizziness and was taken to the hospital last night and kept overnight. She is now back home but is scheduled for some medical tests later. They are requesting prayer.

NELLIE RHODES FUNERAL

Nellie Rhodes, Sister of Deacon J. E. Moore's mother, passed on this week. Her funeral will be on Saturday, September 30, at 2 pm.

Karen and I visited there tonight. Pray for the family.

UPDATES -OMER LAWSON - PASTOR JOE WATSON - JOHN MAXWELL SEMINAR

I was saddened to hear about the death of Bishop Omer Lawson. He was a great man of God and is rejoicing in paradise. I could not attend the funeral or visit but I am sending a card to the family. Sister Ruth Lawson, his sister, used me in revival when she Pastored Crab Orchard back in the early 70's. It was one of my first and I remember they broke the Sunday School record that weekend - over 140 in attendance. It was in the old church. She is the only one left here, as far as I know. We pray for her and the family.

It is good to hear that Pastor Joe Watson is doing much better. He had open heart surgery yesterday and is recovering in the Jackson Hospital. Read more at State Overseer E. C. McKinley's click > blog

Yesteday I was involved in getting some things together for my vita and resume. It seems that is some of most time consuming things that I do. Anyway, it is updated now.

Today I was thankful to attend the John Maxwell seminar at Christ Church in Nashville. It is refreshing to hear him speak and teach the principles and practices of leadership. It is amazing how these principles, when applied, make so much difference in leadership ability. He always packs his teaching with plenty of humor, which is very refreshing and uplifting.

Karen and I got home today around 7 pm and headed to the funeral home.

HOWARD HUGHES

Howard Hughes passed on to be with the Lord. He was a friend of mine and Karen. He ministered in the church for over 45 years (much of it BI-vocational) in evangelistic and pastoral ministry. Karen attended school with one of his sons, Richard. I attended the General Assembly one year with Brother Howard and a son, John. His son Richard is a preacher of the gospel.

Brother Hughes preached a revival at the Waverly, TN church when I pastored there and my mother came to the altar and was restored. What a great time.

Brother Howard had severe diabetes and had one of his legs amputated not too long ago. He was in a Rehab Center in Erin, TN. He no longer is suffering - he is rejoicing in the presence of the Lord in paradise. Pray for the family.

His funeral will be Saturday, September 30. Read more at State Overseer's blog .

BISHOP OMER LAWSON

By now, perhaps you have heard that Bishop Omer Lawson has passed away. It happened yesterday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. (CST) at his home in Crossville, Tennessee.

Bishop Lawson is a former general appointee who served the COGOP faithfully. He has two sons in full-time ministry in Tennessee, Dr. Philip Lawson at the Columbia church and James Lawson at the Dyersburg church. His son Melvin Lawson serves the Church of God of Prophecy in Hammond, Indiana. His grandson, Pastor Richie Horner serves the church at Savannah, Tennessee. If you were to run the line out, you would find a multitude of children, grand-children, great-grand children and sons, daughters and other relatives in ministry. One of his grandson's married Windell and Myrna Moore's daughter Janna. Myrna is related to my mother's family and, thus, to me.

Please keep the family in your prayers during this time. The funeral is 11 am, Thursday, September 28 at the Pine Grove church in Crossville, TN.

Brother Lawson was very instrumental in the organization of the church here at Huntingdon. He was District Overseer and Pastor of Big Sandy and conducted revivals that saw many saved and receive the Holy Ghost baptism in this area. The church here at Huntindon was organized on September 28, 1947 and his funeral will be conducted on September 28, 2006 but he is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord.

Let us keep this family in prayer.

LONGING

What do you long for? Some long for simple things like a hug, a smile, a kind look, a friendly voice or a pat on the back. Some long to be away from some trouble or trial. Longings, desires, wants are a part of each one's life. To be fulfilled, to be satisfied, to be content is a natural thing for human's.

What do you long for? Some do not realize that their fulfillment comes because of Someone. To be fulfilled is more than things, more than position, more than where a person is, more than many things. It is to know Someone it is to be with Someone. Yes, Someone.

There is only one thing that will satisfy a person when they are very thirsty - water.

Are you longing? There is One who can fill that longing. . .

Psalm 42:1 As the hart (deer) panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

Psalm 107: 9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

BOOK REVIEW

The book by Don Piper, 90 Minutes In Heaven, is an excellent book for anyone who desires to hear about someone who shares his trip to heaven.

Don was run over in his small car by an 18-wheeler as he was on his way back from his denomination's church conference. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was badly torn and bones were broken all over his body. Blood was coming out of his ears and other parts. Another minister, who was at the same conference and did not know it was Don, stopped at the scene and asked if he could pray for anyone. The officer told him that only one was hurt and he was deceased. The minister asked if he could pray anyway. With persistence he was allowed to go pray. The minister told of being constrained to stay and pray. . . .then something happened. . . .

It is an excellent read of the trials, triumphs and testimony of a man who was pronounced dead, testifies of going to heaven and comes back to fulfill God's purposes before he goes back to heaven again.

I would recommend this book, especially, to anyone who is going through any type of crisis or long-term struggle in their life.

UPDATE & FAMILY NIGHT & FAMILY LINKS

Yesterday, Sat. Sept. 23, Karen and I visited our oldest daughter, Danita, in Lebanon, TN. We had a family "get together" there with each of my daughter's families. Jason could not be there since he is in college at Bethel and had work study. I will post some more information and pictures on this later in the week.

On the fourth Sunday night of each month we encourage the folks here to be with family and enjoy family fellowship. Today, Karen, Jason and I enjoyed going to King's Family Restaurant and fellowshipping with Don and Cathy VanMeter and Marie and J. E. Moore. The food was excellent and the fellowship was great. We also enjoyed meeting some new folks that we were introduced to.

We then went home and enjoyed the evening visiting with Jason. We had a good time relaxing and chatting. Jason left around 6 pm to go back to Bethel.

God has put the family together for the His purposes. We pray that each one of the families here at Huntingdon will be blessed as God desires. There are so many attacks on the family today. We need the touch of God in our families lives.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Your prayers are appreciated for my brother's (Tony's) wife Pascha Cathey, who will be entering surgery this coming Monday in Maryville, TN. Pascha's health is very fragile since she has severe diabetes, asthma, a weak heart and weight difficulties. Pray that the surgery will be successful. Pray for their 13 year old twin daughters who are really stuggling with this and for Tony as well.

Also, last May 2005 my wife Karen was involved in a semi-minor auto accident. No one was hurt severely although the car was totalled due to being 7 years old, a lot of miles, the air bag deploying and some front driver side damage. Karen came home after the accident and I questioned her carefully as to any injuries. She said, "I am fine and don't feel hurt anywhere." That was the end of that until about three or four months ago (over a year after the accident) when I walked in on her holding her left side of her forehead. I ran over to her and then she told me that her head had hit the window when she wrecked but at the time it only hurt very little and quit hurting after a little while. She did not tell me about her head being banged against the window and that a month or so after the accident she started having these severe pains where her head hit the window. She did not go to the doctor at the time of the accident feeling she was fine and did not have health insurance to cover a month later. She continued to try to ignore it but it gets more severe each time. She got health insurance back in May of this year and is now scheduled to see a doctor after I have encouraged her to for some time. She has also been having severe chest pains at times. Your prayers are appreciated.

Today's Scripture

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah 57:15

UPDATE

Yesterday and today have been awesome with the Lord. Thank God He is my Father.

Tonight was a great night as we had service at the Huntingdon Health and Rehab. Center. Sister Bonnie Curtis is there and several of her friends were present tonight. We sang some of the older hymns - "Amazing Grace," "Ole Time Religion", "Swing Low Sweet Chariot," "Do Lord", and others. It was especially enjoyable and inspiring to hear the African American ladies as they sang "Do Lord", and "Swing Low Sweet Chariot." One brother brought his harmonica and joined in. We thank God for the opportunity to minister to these precious ones that have lived for so many years. One lady testified of how her father would hitch up the mules to the wagon and they would head to church and it wasn't the same church each Sunday because they had to have services in different churches in those days. People walked, rode horses and wagons and very few drove cars in those days. Our day is changed with the fastpaced lifestyle we live but it is the same Lord who still loves us.

Why I’m a one-point preacher by Andy Stanley

I never felt called to preach. I just volunteered. I wanted to feel called. But it just never happened for me. Several of my friends felt called while we were in high school. They went forward during a Sunday night service and shared it with the congregation. Everybody clapped. Some of them are still in ministry. I think one of them is in jail.

He thought for a moment. "Well, I guess it's OK to volunteer."

"Good," I said. "I would like to volunteer." So I did. In fact, it was two volunteer environments that shaped me as a communicator.

During my sophomore year of college, our youth pastor, Sid Hopkins, asked me if I would help him lead our Wednesday night student Bible study. That was a really strange request since we didn't even have a Wednesday night Bible study. Upon further investigation, I discovered that he wanted me to start a study for our students. I had never led or taught anything in my life. I was a whopping two years older than some of the students I would be teaching. But I agreed to give it a try.

NO CHURCH? NO PROBLEM

Kevin Miller review of George Barna's predictions. What do you think????

Post a comment. . .

Storm the barricades! According to researcher George Barna, we're in the midst of a "spiritual revolution that is reshaping Christianity, personal faith, corporate religious experience, and the moral contours of the nation."

Who's leading the coup d'état? Some 20 million people, dubbed Revolutionaries, who live "a first-century lifestyle based on faith, goodness, love, generosity, kindness, and simplicity" and who "zealously pursue an intimate relationship with God."

If true, this is amazing news, the best for American Christians in generations.

But before we break out the party poppers, we should note that, like every revolution, this one has a loser: the local church.

TODAY - PRAYER REQUEST

Today Sister Karen and I mowed the lot next to the church and the front of the church. We then went visiting. We visited with Sister Ruth King and Daughter Rita in Bruceton, TN. We enjoyed a good visit and we prayed together. It was an enjoyable time. I took some pictures of Sister Ruth and Rita and also some pictures of her other daughter's children's pictures (Sister Ruth's grandchildren). They live in Michigan.

We then went to Bethel College in McKenzie and visited with our son and took him some needed items. He is continuing in the Music major and sings with the Renaissance Choir. We thank God that Jason is continuing in his studies and we pray for him.

Then we went and visited with Rita and James Moore. James is having knee problems from a vehicle accident he had several years ago. We enjoyed a good visit and prayed for James. He may need surgery in the future. We also saw Travis and Brittany at Brother James.

We then visited with Brother J. E. and Sister Marie Moore. We enjoyed a good visit with them and prayed with them. We usually have a good time and a lot of laughs visiting with Brother J. E. He keeps us in "stitches." Guess you know what that means if you are a Southerner.

Karen and I have enjoyed a great day of visiting with members and friends and enjoyed the times of prayer together.

This is Sister Rita, Sister King's daughter.

This is Sister Ruth King. She and Rita are a great blessing to us.

UPDATE - YESTERDAY AND PRAYER REQUESTS

Karen and I left for Nashville early yesterday morning. She is teaching 5th grade at Criswell Middle School. I am continuing to study on the Doctor of Ministry courses in the libraries at Nashville and at college and university libraries where I can get reference materials. We drove in yesterday evening and went to visit Leon and Susie Reynolds.

We visited for a while with them and prayed for Sister Susie and Brother Leon. Both have been sick. He has been out of church for the past couple weeks with chest congestion. She has been diagnosed with a benign tumor closely connected to her spine (inoperable). This causes pain and much discomfort. We had a good season of prayer with both and left feeling that God met with us. We know that He is the HEALER! Both Sister Susie and Brother Leon are a great blessing to the church serving as Women's Ministry Leader and Sunday School Superintendent.

We are continuing to pray for all the families of the church here at Huntingdon and also the lost in our community and county.

WEDNESDAY EVENING MEETING & Prayer Requests

Beginning this month, one Wed. evening each month will be leadership training. Last night we studied about our attitudes. The previous post list some of the things we studied.

Several were out sick. Sister Susie Reynolds has been advised that she has a tumor that is connecting her spine and no surgery can be performed. We know that God can remove this tumor and so we humbly ask Him to remove it. Brother Leon Reynolds has been very sick and has not been in services for the past four times. We know that he is very regular in attendance and is sick when he is out. Pray that God will heal him. Sister Josie Rivera is having problems with her back and a recent MRI is being reviewed. Sister Marie Moore continues to need prayer from diabetes and leg cramps and pain. Sister Jennie Moore is still have severe edema in her legs.

Pray for upcoming needs in our finance department for our property payment.

POST BY COGOP TN STATE OVERSEER, E. C. MCKINLEY

The below post is TN State Overseer, E. C. McKinley. I am in full agreement with the BDP report. Any who may need to attend the meeting at Lennox please read the date and time below. I am open to counsel any who desire here in Huntingdon.

Click here to read State Overseer E. C. McKinley's blog

An unchanging God in changing times....

If you are a regular visitor to our daily blog, you are well aware of the changes that are taking place in the Church of God of Prophecy. In our General Assembly that was conducted in Nashville, Tennessee this past month, the business sessions went well beyond the time originally allotted for on the program. This was because there seemed to be an overwhelming consensus to accept the reports that were presented to the delegates, however, a small number of delegates felt convinced that the reports should not be accepted as corrected.

After multiple attempts to gain one accord, the General Overseer felt it necessary to request a “leadership expression” from the State and National Presiding Bishops. After this expression, the voice of those objecting was removed by the General Overseer, and the report passed.Let me say first of all, that I am in full agreement with the reports that were passed, and I am convinced that what the committee presented was biblically sound and presented the ministry of the Church of God of Prophecy with a more practical theological approach to the subjects covered.Beginning this week, I will be meeting with the ministry and leaders of the church in Tennessee to explain to them what this report means, and how it is to be implemented within our churches and ministries across the state. My first meeting will be at the Lennox Church of God of Prophecy located in West Tennessee. I am extending a cordial invitation to anyone who would like to attend. The meeting will be at 2:30 p.m., September 17, 2006.

I am convinced that the greatest days of the church are just ahead of us. God is looking for someone who will trust Him....I want to be that person, how about you?

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2006

Thank the Lord for another great Sunday. Several were in the altar as the Holy Ghost moved among us in this morning's service. Sister Susie Reynolds daughter, Cathy, testified of God's goodness and deliverance. She spoke of her desire to continue with the Lord in parenting her son and attending church. She was healed of a brain tumor in November of 2004 in a revival here at the church. She continues to give the Lord praise for his favor and blessings.

We were blessed to have Sister Joann Blow with us today. This is her second visit to the church. She joined right in with the worship and came up to help pray in the altar. She spoke to me personally and said, "I am glad this church prays in the Holy Ghost. God has been praying through me for needs that I don't know how to pray for." She told me of a time God answered a prayer that doctors said was hopeless. We thank God that He has prayer warriors in many places in His church and kingdom. We are so pleased that she is coming to be with us.

Tonight was also a great time in the Lord. We worshipped and praised the Lord. We are asking God to help us seek Him with all our hearts. We desperately need Him more than anything. . . . .

TODAY

I rested in this morning after being up until 1:30 pm doing some studying and other ministry needs. Karen was up early this morning doing some school work. After eating a late breakfast we visited with Sister Lillie Grooms. She was very receptive but is still having breathing problems. She wants continued prayer.

This afternoon we visited with my Aunt Mae Hill's family in Dickson, TN. She celebrated her 91st birthday. We enjoyed the birthday snacks, the cake and the family fellowship.

OVERSEER OF UGANDA/SUDAN, BISHOP NTEZIMANA JAMES MINISTERS AT PARIS CHURCH OF GOD OF PROPHECY

God's presence was very evident as we visited the Paris Church of God of Prophecy. We were happy to meet with Pastor Charles Winchester and wife. Brother Winchester is the new Pastor at the Paris church having been there only a few months. Brother David French, the Youth Minister, also had some youth there who were enjoying the weekly meal that the church prepares for them. We also enjoyed the meal and the fellowship.

Brother Ntezimana again preached a very powerfully, inspiring message on God's power to sustain in the times of crises. Several were in the altar and the Lord blessed mightily. The Holy Ghost spoke and called us to "seek me, seek me, the enemy is raging his time is short, you must seek me." There was shouting, dancing, running, weeping, laughing and rejoicing. People were crying out for God and his presence.

Thank God for the Paris church and their new Pastor. We must work together in these last days to see the work of God move forward. Seeking God is not a take it or leave it matter, God is contraining us to seek Him. (hope to post some pictures later, I did not get pictures of the altar service as I was also very involved seeking in the altar also)

PICTURES FROM THE VISIT TO THE FAITH CHRISTIAN OUTREACH FELLOWSHIP

On Tuesday, September 5th, Bishop Ntezimana James shared his heart for the ministry of intercessory prayer with the Intercessory Prayer team at Faith Outreach Fellowship in Camden, TN. The church was very receptive and open to his ministry. We enjoyed meeting the people and fellowshipping with fellow Christians.

The pastor is on the very first seat in the first row. He was very cordial, receptive and gracious. The church gave Brother James a substantial offering for which we give the Lord praise.

The spirit of intercessory prayer was very evident as the Holy Ghost moved throughout the meeing.

Each prayer warrior was attentive and focused on the very needed ministry of intercessory prayer.

PICTURES FROM THE BENTON CO. MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION MEETING

Bishop Ntezimana James speaking to the Benton (Camden, TN) County Ministerial Association. He shared the plans that Uganda/Sudan are using to mobilize prayer intercessors and to have a unified ministerial association throughout the country of Uganda. He also invited the Pastors to come and visit Uganda. Already, three of the Pastors are setting schedules and making plans to come visit.

Pastors from several churches were present. David Allen, the Pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Camden is seen on the right with the wine colored shirt. David Prince, Pastor of The Rock Church of God of Prophecy in Big Sandy, TN is seen on the left side 4th down. I enjoyed this fellowship and the spirit of unity that was felt in this meeting. God is doing great things among the body of Christ all over the world.
