AN AWESOME GOD!

Today's passage is Psalms chapter 8. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

What an awesome God! The Psalmist in chapter 8, believed to be David, begins by declaring, O Lord, Our Lord, how excellent is thay name in all the earth!. Then he recognizes God's power to control the most powerful men by the mouth of babes. Then he considers all the great things of creation that Almighty God created. Then he asks the question. What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? When we consider the greatness of our creator, how can we fathom Him? Think of the worlds without end that He has created and think of the many, many stars which He named - each one. Think of the minute things he created on this earth - atoms, protons, neutrons and now scientists believe there are even smallar particles. After the Psalmist recognized mans place in the order of creation (lower than the angels) he also recognized how God has given humans dominion over the works of His hands on this earth - animals, birds, oceanic life - then he resounds, O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! How wonderful to say O Lord our Lord! He is awesome.
