DURING troubled times, many people look for signs that God is at work in the world and that the future is securely in God's hands. That was true for Simeon in the first century. As he grew older, Simeon looked eagerly for the Messiah, God's anointed one.

Deciding to make a statement every time he's ask for or signs his name, a 19-year-old PETA staff member—formerly known as Chris Garnett—has legally changed his name to KentuckyFriedCruelty.com, the same name as PETA’s Web site that gives the lowdown on KFC’s refusal to eliminate the worst abuses of chickens raised and killed to fill its buckets. The former Dover Plains, New York, resident and current Street Team coordinator of PETA’s youth division has the official state papers and driver’s license to prove it. His parents—who have been supportive since he went vegan at age 15—were a little shocked at first, but although they insist on still calling him Chris, they’ve accepted the change. . . .

Gleanings
Many people have been hurt by those calling themselves Christians and by the organized church. That is not a surprise as the church is full of flawed people (after all none of us is perfect). The fact that we are not perfect is not meant to excuse the things that have happened, simply offer an explanation.
The problem is compounded by the fact that many people look upon Christianity as a religion, with rules, regulations and traditions that must be followed. There is a religious aspect to Christianity, but Christianity is first and foremost about relationships. It is about a relationship with the Living God. . . .
