VISITS

Karen and I visited with Sister Bonnie Curtis (Crossno) at the rehabilitation facility today. We had a warm visit. We also visited with Mrs. Parker an elderly African-American lady who is a deceased Baptist Pastor's wife. Sister Bonnie was visiting with her and so we just visited with both of them in the same room. They are good friends. We had a great time of visit and a glorious time of prayer. Sister Parker really prayed a zealous prayer. We gave each of them a wall calendar and pocket calender for 2006. We really enjoyed the visit and they both said, "come back real soon." It is difficult to leave these folks since they mostly sit all day, seemingly, waiting for someone to come by and visit or for that final visit that calls them to that long home. They are precious with their gray or white hair and gentle voices. More of our church people should visit these, often forgotten, warriors who have no other place to go while left on this earth.

We also visited Mrs. Borlean there at the rehab center. She was very appreciative and told us that she used to come to our church but was unable to get a ride for some time and started attending another church. We had a good season of prayer with her as well. She begged us to come again real soon. A person could spend every day all day ministering to these precious ones that have labored for many years and now are unable to go - but they still pray - believe me.

Karen continues to do crocheting for Christmas presents for our daughters. We also went to Lowes in Paris and Freds to get some gifts for some of our family members. I started signing and addressing Christmas Cards. It seems there is one more that I need to do and I thought of another one as I am writing this. It is late and we need to get some rest.

TODAY - SCRIPTURE - HELPING - STUDY

Scripture for today Hebrews 10:1 "For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect." Thank God for the perfect sacrifice that Jesus gave on the cross that we could be perfectly (completely) forgiven, perfectly justified and perfectly saved.

Today I helped Karen with her resume and an application. She is continuing to look for a teaching position. We have been here at Huntingdon for 17 months and nothing has been offered in a 40 mile radius. We are praying that God will open the way for her and continued provision. He has never failed us. He knows our needs perfectly.

I am continuing in the Doctor of Ministry Studies. The area is Understanding Typology in Biblical Hermeneutics.

HAS WAL-MART RECONSIDERED?

Since our membership and attendees live in a 25-30 miles radius, Sister Karen and I visit some of the stores in that area. We were in Wal-Mart in Camden, TN last Sunday evening and I gingerly said, "Merry Christmas" to one of the employees. Then I asked him about the policy on using the word Christmas. He said, "well we are just trying to follow orders and he said, 'Happy Holidays'." This past Saturday, Karen were watching a TV commercial and, low and behold, the commercial had "Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays" in large letters and at the bottom there was Wal-Mart in big letters. Has Wal-Mart reconsidered or are they playing the "locale" game - that is, telling their managers to use their discretion as to what they do according to their location?

Anyway, I was in Wal-Mart early this morning getting some things (sorry to those who are boycotting Wal-Mart, its about the only place here to shop with any diversity of selections). I said, "Merry Christmas" to one of the employees and he responded back "Merry Christmas thats what its all about." Then as I checked out, the clerk very openly began to talk about Jesus and that He is the reason we celebrate. It was a relief to me but I am still not sure about the policy from the powers that be over the Wal-Mart stores.

Today, Sister Karen and I traveled to another area to visit and while there we went in to Fred's, Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree (a good place to buy small gifts for children and adults too) to do some CHRISTmas shopping. Fred's and Dollar Tree has a selection of items that relate to Christmas and there seems to be no problem with using the word Christmas. Surprisingly at the Wal-Mart in Paris, TN (there are 6 in about a 35 mile radius of our home) we heard Christmas music (not just secular but Christian). This is a bit confusing to me and I'm wondering if anyone knows any more about this. If you do, please email me or hit the comment link below and inform me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

TODAY'S TRAVELS

Today Sister Karen and I visited some. I visited with Virginia Davis at her daycare just up the street around 9:30 am. She requested prayer for her mother-in-law, Willodene Davis , who has been sick with this "crud" that is going around. She is also diabetic and has some heart problems. I told her we missed her and the family. She said they were getting ready to come but sickness hindered them. We will be praying for them.

Karen and I then went to the Hollow Rock, Bruceton and Buena Vista area to visit. In Bruceton, at the Grace's, we saw Krystal and Brandon. Their mother, Joyce and their brother Lee, had gone to take their van to get some work done on it where Mike, their father works in Paris. We encouraged Krystal and Brandon and let them know we really missed them in church the past several weeks. They were both friendly and receptive. Both are teens in high school.

Then we went and visited Jeff and April Davis, and their three children. We had a short but friendly visit. April teaches high school and had to leave in a while to go to a baskeball game. Jeff works at Dupont in New Johnsonville and had just gotten in from work. We let them know that we really have enjoyed them visiting our services and hope they can come again real soon. They apologized for not asking us to stay longer but we assured them we understood since Karen has taught school and understands when a teacher has to be there. April then told us that she is the Cheer Leader sponsor. Karen assured her that she understood since our daughter Sarah was a Cheer Leader for a couple years. As we left they asked us to come again.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 11, 2005

I was up at 5 am and did some last minute studying for today's message "Newness in Christ" using 2 Cor. 4:16 as a text. At about 7:30, I asked Karen if she is feeling well enough to have Children's church today and she said, "I am going to try." I finished getting ready and went over to the church to check the building at 8:30 am. The heat was not on and it was cold. Usually the ones who clean turn it on low the night before, so I turned it on. We have a good heating system and by 9:45 it was comfortable. There were several out today with sickness. Sister Donna Crossno called and could hardly speak. She has fever and nausea. We requested prayer for her, the Davises, Delilah Mummel, Gracie and Celinas and several others. The worship was great and in the message we were challenged to not let fear control us but to let God renew us day by day.

Sister Karen and the children, 7 of them, went down to the basement for Children's Church. It was a special treat for Karen to have our youngest grandchild, Aviana, in her service. Karen told me later, they were restless and she did not feel very strong yet so they came up early while I was preaching. We are thankful for our children. These were there today, Brooks, James, Shirley, Jamie, Megan, Jesse, & Aviana. Karen has ministered to at least 15 children in the past couple months in Children Church. The others are Mariah, Savannah, Zachery, Cody, Jonah, Jordan, Tristen, Shirley, James and Celinas. We are very thankful for our children and want them to be ministered to and want others to come to our church.

Last night the service was good but several were out. We had a good time in the Lord. The message, "God Can Do It," was from Luke 1:37 . . ."with God nothing shall be impossible." We were challenged to be submissive to God and let Him do His work in us and through us. His promises are "yea and amen!"

PRAYER FOR TODAY

First, I thank You Heavenly Father and worship You. HOW GREAT THOU ART! Your greatness is far above anthing I could say, imagine or think. Glory, honor and praises to You. Secondly, I confess my failures and sins. Forgive me I pray. Forgive me of hidden sins. Forgive me of the lack of involvement in reaching out to others. Forgive me of doubt. Forgive me of the lack of fervent service and prayer. Next, I pray for the leaders in our nation and the nations around the world. I ask that the soldiers in Iraq and around the world will be protected and that this war in Iraq will accomplish what it is supposed to accomplish. I ask for strength and guidance for the leaders in the church in all areas and levels. Please give added grace to those who are serving under severe and difficult circumstances in nations where they are not wanted and are abused and persecuted. Bless all the nations that our churches sponsor as Harvest partners. Ethiopia is one of ours and I pray for this nation that is in dire need of even the basic physical needs. Perform miracles in provision for these nations, I pray. Now, I pray that You will be with us today in our church meetings. Give me grace to shepherd your people. May Your presence be with us as You know our need. We are very needy and most of all we need YOU O LORD GOD! In the Wonderful, Powerful, Holy Name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord! AMEN!

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2005

Sister Karen and I had been offered a "speacial treat" when we were at Deacon and Sister Moore's on Thursday night. They came over at 9:00 am this morning and brought country ham. Karen fixed everything else for brunch and Brother Moore cooked the ham. Around 10 am, we ate with them, and Sarah and family. The country ham was great. Brother Moore told us the secret of cooking country ham. He said, "just brown it real quick on each side for a few minutes, otherwise, if you cook it too long it will get tough." It was tender and very good. We thank the Moores and all the people here for being so good to us.

The Servant Evangelism Project scheduled from 12:30-3:00 pm was cancelled due to sickness and cold weather. The temperature has been 20-25 degrees below the normal for this time of the year. We hope to reschedule the Windshield Washing act of kindness sometime in the future. We have discussed a more appropriate project for this time of the year and will be working towards doing that sometime soon.

Bethel Renaissaince Choir was great last night. The newly renovated building was quaint and very nice. It is a church building that is over 100 years old (1870's). The Christmas songs were awesome. The people responded well as the choir was "clapped" back for an encore. I was able to get the whole musical on tape. Jason did well on his solo considering that he had strepp throat only a few days ago. We are "proud" of Jason and pray that he will do well in the music teaching field. We were happy that Sarah, Chris and little Aviana got to be with us Friday night, all day yesterday, last night and are to be with us in the service tomorrow.

VISITS

I called Sister Donna Crossno around 9:30 am this morning to see how she is feeling. She missed work and church Wedn. She told me that she is better but does not know if she will be able to make it to the Servant Evangelism outreach project tomorrow. I suggested that we could reschedule it or that I may go out and try to wash some windshields on my own. I encouraged her to stay in since she is hoarse and sounds like she is in a "barrel." She told me that Delilah is better. I thanked her for praying for Karen and told her that Karen is better.

At 10:00 am I began studying another section in the Biblical Hermeneutics course of the Doctorate program. This study is challenging along with the other responsibilities that I have as Pastor.

Around 12:15 pm, I called some of the newest visitors to try to set a time to visit in their home. Josh Lawton, the Davis's son-in-law, answered at his home but was leaving for work. He works for the railroad. He said he would be back Monday and we could come by then. I called the Davis's other child, Jeff, and got a voice machine. I left a message letting them know who I was and asked when Karen and I could come and visit. Karen and I then left to visit some of the homebound members.

Sister Karen and I just go back (2:25 pm) from visiting Sister Jennie Sanders and Sister Lilly Grooms. Sister Jennie is moving into an apartment in town and will be much closer to folks who can help her. She is very exited but will miss her old homeplace where she lived over 60 years. She said, "I just felt like I needed to move because this house is very old and the kitchen floor is sinking." We are very happy for Sister Jennie. We also met her two sons and their wives while we were there and her grandson, Doug. They were visiting with her when we got there. She will be just about a mile from us and we can check on her very easy.

Sister Lilly continues to have shortness of breath and can't get around very well. She wanted us to tell the church hello for her and said, "I want to come back sometime and hope I can." She wanted to tell everyone at the church that she loves them. Her 4 year old grandson, Jacob, was there and we always enjoy being with him and seeing him play.

We had a good season of prayer with both before we headed back home.

We had lunch at Sonic (2 pm) and brought Jason a chicken wrap combo home. He is going to Bethel at 3 pm to practice for the Christmas musicals scheduled tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. Karen and I, Sarah (my youngest daughter) and Chris will be going tomorrow night.

UNITY OF THE BIBLE

Often we hear comments like, "I just can't read the Old Testament to understand it." Or, "I read the New Testament and don't see any need to really read much of the Old Testament." Granted, there are some difficult passages, especially in the Prophetical writings, to understand and there are some difficult passages in the New Testament to understand as well. Yet we understand that it has been said and shown that "the New Testament is contained in the Old and the Old Testament is revealed in the New." Reading the Bible as a unit is critical for a better and continued understanding of the Bible.

There are some 300 places in the New Testament that refers to an Old Testament passage or passage combination and starts with "It is written" (Matthew 21:13) or "As it is Written" (Mark 1:2) or a similar phrase. There are some 4000 (4 thousand) allusions to a passage, part of a passage, compilation of passages or combination of passages of the Old Testament in the New Testament (borrowed, Lecture by David Turner, Trinity Theological Seminary). There are passages in the Old Testament that predict the coming of Messiah (Read Isaiah 53), where He will be born (Micah 5:2), the fulfillment in the New Testament (John 7:42), how He will come into this world (Isaiah 7:14) and the fulfillment (Matthew 1:22-23).

So as we read the Bible we can be more awakened to understand that when we see something in the New Testament that refers back to the Old, the unity of the Bible becomes more obvious. Also, when we read something in the Old Testament that predicts a future event, often the fulfillment is contained in the New. There are prophecies in both that have not been fulfilled but that is another subject. As the Apostle Paul declares "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope" (Romans 15:4). Peter and Paul and the early New Testament Christians read the Old Testament (as it was then) and interpreted it. Thank God for the Old Testament and the New Testament and the Unity of the Bible.

PRAYER

Adoration, worship, honor, glory and might be to the almighty God. Praises and worship to the King of Kings. Heavenly Father, I pray today that You will forgive the failures and sins in my life. Failures and sins that I do not see as overt but You see my heart and know my thoughts even afar off. I ask that You help me guard my heart from the subtle attacks of the devil. Make me an instrument in Your hands to minister to others. Open the door today for sharing Your Son with others. Let me be a fire in Your Spirit that others may see You and want You O God I pray. Help me to be real as a Christian and not "plastic." Help me to be an example of the believers and to the believers. I pray for the leaders of this nation and all nations that You will be their reason for each decision that is made. Help me to discern what You are doing as I walk in the Spirit throughout this day and be submissive to the Holy Ghost's directions. I pray the blood of Jesus covers my children, grandchildren, mom, brother's family, sister's family and each member and friend of the church here. I pray for the leaders of the church as they go about their daily lives that You will use them for Your glory and honor. Bless each one of them, I pray. Thank You for You, O God and all You are. . . .Glorious, Holy, Almighty, Wonderful, Awesome. . .I ask these things in the wonderful, powerful name of Jesus Christ.

AFTERNOON & EVENING THURSDAY 12/08

Sister Karen and I visited some this afternoon. We had a good visit with James and Rita Moore. James is Sunday School Superintendent and Rita is the church Clerk and Treasurer. These two leaders are very vital to the church here at Huntingdon. We appreciate their diligent and faithful work for the Lord. We also visited J. E. and Marie Moore (James's mom and dad). J. E. is a Deacon and he and Sister Moore are faithful members of the church. Brother J. E. and James have given many hours and the use of their equipment to the development of the new church property. The property site is now leveled and landscaped in the front approximate 4 acres and is ready for building. The back acreage will be landscaped in the future. We are currently in the process of paying the property off and owe about 12,000.00 on this 7.6 acre beautiful site. We are seeking God for His direction in this process. Brother J. E. and I have been meeting at the property on Sunday mornings at around 9:30 am to pray before church. Also remember Sister Marie. She has requested prayer that she will be able to be back in church. She has diabetes and her sugar level has been very high recently.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE VERSE

Pslams 56:3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. This was a time when David wound up in the hands of the Philistines. They were the arch enemy of Isreal. David was being subject to Saul but Saul was jealous and was after David's life too. Sometimes we feel afraid because when we are doing our best it seems that there are those that would have us defeated and/or destroyed. Our trust should be as David's - what time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. It is natural human emotion to be afraid sometimes.

Two men were walking through some wooded area when a grizzly bear came upon them. One of the men said, "lets stand real still and see if the bear will just leave." The other said, "I'll run and you stand still and see if he leaves." This is humorous, but often thats how we feel when we are afraid - we feel like running. David didn't say, "lets run," he said "what time I am afraid, I will trust in thee." God help us to trust in thee in all circumstances, in all tests, in all battles, in all trials. . . .at all times.

EARLY MORNING DEVOTION & PRAYER

It is quiet this early morning hour. Karen and Jason are still resting. Our three dogs (Gabriel a Golden Retriever, Samson, a Maltese and Bandit, a Fiest mix) are all resting quietly outside the back door. It is colder (24 deg.) than normal on this early December day of the month but not as cold as yesterday (19). I want to offer this prayer this morning.

Heavenly Father, I come to you through your son Jesus and thank You for You and all that You are. I worship You, the mighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and many others in the Scripture. How awesome You are. Mere words cannot describe You and You are too much for my finite state. I confess that I have failed You in many ways. Sometimes I doubt. Sometimes I am too busy with my own agenda. Sometimes I covet. Sometimes I have negative and unwholesome thoughts. Forgive me of these sins and hidden sins in my life that I don't see. Keep me from presumptious sins. Forgive me of the weights that keep me from running the race as I should and help me lay them down at your feet. Weights of anxiety, fear, past failures and successess. I pray that you forgive me of these things and not let Satan exploit me in any of these things. I thank You Holy Spirit for teaching me, guiding me, leading me and I pray that today Your power will flow through me for your glory and honor. I pray for the leaders in the church, nation, state and local leaders. Be with each of them and help them make the decisions that will please you. I ask that You bless the members and friends here at Huntingdon. Give anointing and guidance to the leaders of the church here. Strengthen each one that is discouraged. Heal those that are sick in the most Holy, Righteous, Powerful Name of Jesus Christ. I give You Praise, Worship, I laud You, I Magnify You, I Bless Your Holy Name. UPCOMING EVENTS

SERVANT EVANGELISM PROJECT: Saturday, December 10, 12:30-3:00 pm. We will meet for prayer and debriefing between 12:30-12:45. We will go do the project from 1:00 to 2:30 and will come back to discuss the project and have pizza at 2:30. Those who Volunteer will be joining in the Windshield Washing Project at Fred's Parking Lot. This will be a simple act of kindness to show God's love in a practical way. We will offer the service and tell them it is free, no strings attached, and will give them a card showing who we are and where the church is. Our prayers are that the person will be touched by the Holy Spirit and will eventually come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. WE PRAY THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL GO BEFORE US AND MOVE ON THOSE WE OFFER THIS SIMPLE ACT OF KINDNESS TO.

CHRISTMAS CANDLELIGHT SERVICE: Sunday December 18, 11:00 am. This will be a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior and Lord through personal commitment and dedication. There will be Christmas carols interspersed with poems, testimonies, and readings all in the spirit of celebrating the incarnate birth of Jesus Christ.

We are exited about the great things God is doing here at the Huntingdon church and want to share the love of Jesus with everyone. MAY HE BE GLORIFIED!

VISITATION

Sister Karen and I visited with Mrs. Willodene Davis today. She is not feeling well so we had a brief prayer with her at her door and left to come back and visit later. She may have the same virus type sickness that is making the rounds during this time of the year. Remember her in prayer. We visited with Mr. Bill Hall who is feeling much better but continues to have voice problems. He is supposed to see an ENT Specialist later this week. Remember these in prayer.

"Jesus healed them all, Jesus healed many. . ." Luke 4:40 says, "Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them." So says the scripture in several places. We serve a healing Jesus. O come Lord Jesus and heal us. . . . .let your healing virtue flow throughout your body. Lord I believe, help my unbelief so that your power, virtue and grace will flow to these and heal these for the glory of God. AMEN!

TODAY AND PRAYER REQUESTS

It is great to be alive in the Lord today. The Psalmist declares, "this is the day that the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it." O what an AWESOME, MIGHTY, HOLY, UNCHANGEABLE, IMMUTABLE, GOD WE SERVE! HE IS WORTHY OF ALL OUR PRAISE! My prayer today is that God will be glorified in all I do today. I pray that he will cleanse me of all failures, sins, hidden sins and weights that would hinder me from serving Him as I should. As the Psalmist prayed, so I pray today with desire for the flow of his Grace, "let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord my strength and my redeemer." I pray for an understanding and loving spirit as I meet each person today - in my home and in the community. I pray for grace and strength to function in the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray for the leaders of our country, state, and local areas. I pray that God will bless President Bush and his family. I pray that the soldiers in Iraq will be protected and that God will bring this war to a place that will free the troups to come home and will secure the country of Iraq by reasonable, common sense people that will lead the country toward Godly principles. I pray for this nation that God will forgive us for the decisions we have made in areas such as abortion, homosexuality, pornography, lotteries and gambling. I pray that God will forgive me for not being more involved in my stance regarding these values. I ask that God will give me the strength to be a genuine Christian and love sinners, pray for those who despitefully use me and to forgive those who hurt and use me. I pray that God will charge me with a greater unction to proclaim the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ! AMEN!

TODAY: After a quiet time and meditation, I have continued this morning in doctoral studies. I completed the course and final exam last week of "Applied Research In Theology of Ministry" and now am in the course "Contemporary Biblical Hermeneutics." These courses and the DMin. program are very challenging and pertinent to today's ministry. I am studying in the DMin. Biblical Counseling Core, in Trinity Theological Seminary of Newburgh, IN. This is done online, by Video, by audio CD, textbooks, and some on-campus seminars.

VISIT: Later today or this week, I need to visit some of the visitors that have recently come to the church to visit. One family, Jimmy and Virginia Davis, have been four Sundays in a row. She owns and operates the Day Care just four houses up the street from the church. They really responded well to Brother Weakley's message Sunday. Thank you Jimmy and Virginia for coming and being a part of the positive atmosphere that we experienced Sunday. Jimmy Davis's mother, Willodene Davis, is one that needs to be visited along with the Davis's children and families. Also, Walter Jones, Uvonna Ross, Rex and Lori Warmon & Mr. Manus are other visitors that need to be visited and/or contacted. We have also missed the Grace family the past four weeks. Each of these need visiting and/or contacting sometime this week. Also we will visit some of the members today and the rest of the week.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Remember Sister Carolyn Loggains as she continues to recover from knee replacement. Pray for Sister Susie Reynolds who has reinjured her miniscus in her knee after having surgery back in the summer and may need surgery again. Pray for Sister Marie Moore who continues to have complications from diabetes. Pray for Sister Delilah Mummel who has a virus or the flu and has been very sick. Remember the homebound, Sister Jennie Sanders, Sister Bonnie Curtis, Sister Lennie May Crossno, and Sister Lilly Grooms. Pray for Bill Hall who is much better but continues to have voice problems and can only speak in a loud whisper. Continue to pray for Sister Gordon as she continues to have coughing and some pain in her chest - thankfully she is much better. Pray for Jason as he has final exams at Bethel College this week. Pray for REVIVAL to come to the church at Huntingdon and that each member and friend will be revived in the Lord and move out in the Great Commission. Remember to pray for the Servant Evangelistic project scheduled for Saturday from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. May we seek HIM with all our hearts, effectually and fervently. . . .
